Kudos on launching the new feature! The pricing is a tad expensive, but doesn't look bad at all when you consider the need for an on demand encoder for the entire time that the user is uploading.

I have a list of pages that I find inspiring. The thread link and http://dribbble.com/ are great to find new ones. Every once in awhile, I'll look through them and try to emulate something that is within my reach. Here's a few recent one

I used to think the same thing, but now I think that artistic skill is like any other. Some people are more natural than others, but in the end you've got to work hard to get it. I guarantee you that every one of those designers have put

Who cares? Hundreds of submissions a day are deemed uninteresting by HNers. This one at least hit the front page on its own merit.

I rigged up a small test on my Macbook. Do you think 50,000 iterations would be enough for a general website (such as HN)? import timeit t = timeit.Timer(stmt="""\ def test(pwd, n_iter): for i in range(n_iter):

Hey Artur, Good work on your site! I started a climbing news site last month, so I think we are in the same boat. Here's a bit of advice based on what I've experienced so far: 1. Focus on the front page. People want to find something inter

I read the entire thread and it seems to me that the project is dead (or not very far from it). Jeffrey and I have been pulled on to other projects of higher importance to Google. Unfortunately, no-one from the Python open-source co

I don't think this is the whole story, because DOM manipulations are also very slow.

On the about page it says: Performance The HTML backend has received a particular attention to be as efficient as possible.

On the app-engine discussion forums, it's been mentioned that they do plan on making the channel API compatible with websockets once the technology has matured. The javascript client side code quite closely mimics websocket code too.

I should have posted earlier, but for what it's worth, here's a character reference: Ivan is one of the most hard-working people I have ever met. He aware of what he capable of, and is constantly striving to improve his skills. I had the o

As his friend, I'm surprised that you would accuse him of ripping off a competing site. Since you don't know him, I'll tell you straight up that it's not in his character to do something like that. When Ivan showed me the initial prototype

I'm really hating Youtube's ads. A pre-roll commercial is almost as annoying as 20 seconds of buffering in RealPlayer 10 years ago. Couple that with the mandatory re-showing of the same ad when I try to skip forward, it's a piss poor user

To me, this was the most interesting part of the article: “To give the game some tension, I wanted the monsters to surround Pac Man at some stage of the game. But I felt it would be too stressful for a human being like Pac Man to be continu

I'm sure you've written better comments in the past, but countering his argument with sarcasm and no facts shows no class at all. This is exactly the kind of reply I don't want to see on HN.

It sounds like a lot of his problems stem from the use of Django. I've tried it before, and believe me, Django absolutely sucks on Appengine. First off, you have a full featured framework which was designed for SQL relational databases. M

Appreciate the beta on climbing sites! To be honest, I'm a relative newcomer to the climbing world. I've been at it for a year, and still haven't found a news site or forum that is as addictive as HN. Re offwidth climbers -- Nope, not real

That's a good point. I wrote that when I was working on the "every topic is a wiki page" feature. I was in the mindset of how wikipedia operates, but I see your point that it would exclude a lot of interesting posts. Removing it for now :

That would be awesome! I checked out your site and I have some suggestions if you'd like: - Organize by area instead of climb. Usually climbers will stay in one area for the whole day, so it'd be nice to have a list of boulder problems or r
