Which python game book? This one... http://inventwithpython.com/ or some of the others. I'm thinking of doing the same with my son this summer.

I've been wondering that myself. I just wrote my website so that once I turn it on, people can just sign up and start using it. It just seems weird that virtually no startup does it this way.

I know about the Gittins index to solve Multi-armed bandit problems, from 1979. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gittins_index I thought that was supposed to be optimal in some sense. How does the paper cited in this post improve on that?

What you're seeing is called retargeting. When you visit a site, they can cookie you. Then Google lets your serve up ads to those people you've cookied in the past. Sometimes companies do seem to be stalking you. I see ads for Storm on De

I was simply trying to be helpful and providing data in response to someone who wanted some on wealth distribution. I can't believe you thought providing a source to closely related data deserved a downvote. Sure, wealth and income are not

Here are the Gini coefficients for the US over time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gini_coefficient#US_income_Gini... The Gini coefficient is the standard measure of income inequality.

I loved More Math Into LaTeX. Don't worry about the "more" in the title, that just represents a new edition. I used it to learn LaTeX from scratch. http://www.amazon.com/More-Math-Into-LaTeX-Edition/dp/038732...

No, this is 6.00, which sounds like it is aimed at non-majors. My 11 year old son wanted to go through it with me, and so far the first lecture was good for him. 6.001 is the SICP course.

You can actually find the global optimal solution for surprisingly large real world instances. They do tens of thousands of cities. Lots of interesting stuff here. The Concorde solver is probably the state of the art. http://www.tsp.gatech

Doing a show source on the bootstrap page is the biggest win. If you want a particular element on the page, find it in the source, and see what they did to make the page. jQuery isn't used at all.

Thanks for this. I found it kind of weird that the email they sent didn't include any instructions on what to do. The linked webpage didn't have any guidance either. I guess they assume we all know what to do.

I actually think it is a very good analogy. I too can remember that the Apple Human Interface Guidelines were a pretty radical idea at the time. The web will benefit from a standardized approach in exactly the same way. There are lots of si

True, but it is more a matter of where you choose to invest your time. Hosting and sysadmin work have nothing to do with my startup's value add, and I personally can't add much value by doing it myself.
