This isn't utterly pointless. I'm glad I know about it, and I wouldn't have without this essay. Or were you just saying "in general"? If so, point me to something PG has put online that is utterly pointless. He has a remarkably good filter

Forgive me, but I'm hoping there are a lot of nerdy Mail.app users in this thread... Does anyone here that uses Mail.app and has it sync up only the last month, or couple months of mail? Or even the last..50 or 100 messages like the iPhone

Consider toying around with Objective-C. I was pleasantly surprised. I had never used SmallTalk, and I had a good time with the idea of "message passing". This doesn't take away the requirement of having to own a Mac, so it's free to try it

Absolutely. I see people basically chatting in comments on status updates. I think the problem would be more about spreading the story quickly. Twitter doesn't have the "friend" requirement, ultimately making it the better tool(?) here.

I really like the idea of no wasted time before lunch. Trying to remove reader/hn for the entire day sucks, but maybe knowing "only" after lunch would help increase my rate on my already more productive morning time.
