You just prove the point of the author above. If you had the real Preview on MacOS, you’d be using it all the time without even thinking, like 100% of MacOS users. Because it’s fast, it opens everything faster than you can think, and it ju

I trust that you thought you saw that, but bear in mind that satellite do NOT turn at all. The turns you see on Mercator projections are just that: projection artifacts. Circular low earth orbits (like the ISS) are great circles on the sphe

From my perspective, Gitlab needs to urgently reallocate 90% of its developper force from "Adding new features in 10 different axes" to "Stop adding new features and exclusively work on performance and consistent unified UX&q

In terms of mass it takes us halfway there already, from 10^30kg to 10^-3kg, with quantum effects arriving around 10^-15kg. And in terms of force, the article states that the force involved in that experiment is equivalent to the force of e

The key differentiator of OVH is the very compact datacenters they achieve thanks to water cooling. Some OVH exec were touting about that in a recent podcast. Interestingly in this case, having a very compact data center was probably an agg

Really cool! We actually planned to do something similar at Sterblue 2 years ago but never prioritized it because it’s too far from our primary scope. But we definitely see the use for this exact tool, it’s really nice. This approach of « s

The map is relative to one location. You don’t want to see « rocks » and « rocks » for any distance smaller than 6000km, you want to see everyday objects. So you want the origin to be on earth surface

Well at least the article is aware of its own vanity. I was going to cite the XKCD about “standards” but it did for me. Just use JSON5 and stop losing time (or YML, yes it’s not that terrible for configuration files)

No it doesn’t. I know the HN-crowd feeling about this, but no, YML doesn’t suck as a human configuration language. TOML or XML properly suck. YML is actually a superset of JSON with comments and less brackets if you want. It’s widespread an

That’s an argument I can accept when talking about not spending trillions in wars and defense, but no when spending 1/10000th of that amount into the future of our species and something all our ancestors could only dream of: seeing ali

By serious I meant large indeed, I’m not a native speaker. I have some serious projects that have less than 180 packages too aha. But if you start an ambitious company with a JS codebase today, start with yarn v2, you’ll save yourself some

I did try it but it caused two problems as compared to yarn v2: the dependency resolution algorithm seems less deterministic or strict, causing version incompatibilities that yarn v2 did solve, and also the symlinks are poorly supported by

Well yarn exists for this purpose so I guess I’m not the only one doing this. And if the alternative involves having to manage independent versioning of 180 packages and their inter-dependencies then no thanks. I’m not saying the situation
