Well we have a couple of problems on the table at the moment. Stop Killing Games is a good exemplar of one so I won't go there. But the other is "what happens if Steam goes evil?". Remember Google's old motto? The only s

The very idea of a store front for software needs to die. It’s a single strangle point that serves only to concentrate power and create a legal or regulatory target. There should be no platform to “abuse”. There should be no control point.

Personally, and I have no relation to OP, there was no compelling security advantage for me. Email has no security guarantees unless you use PGP and I don’t know anyone who uses PGP. If someone wants to read my at rest mail they are going t

You don't have to use the tools. I've used it to replace a duff USB-C port on my daughter's M2 air with my own tools (which happen to be exactly the same Wera ones that they send out if you want them to) So that's two wr

They can buy them from selfservicerepair.com which is literally the Apple official parts distribution system.

They do that with hardware pairing but everyone moans at them. I'd rather get genuine parts than worry about my inability to put crap parts in! Thank you. The name was shaming me into ironing a shirt for a formal event :)

They still do that. I just replaced my 15 Pro which had a speaker problem. They gave me a brand new one and migrated everything there in the store for me. 100% battery health again. No money paid. Nearly 2 years old.

The repair market is a pretty horrible disaster zone of stories like that. I popped a 15" MBP screen a few years back and the (£500 paid) replacement lid+screen from a third party had the ghosting problem that was a problem on those. I

I was married to someone for over 20 years who did that. She got told to stop doing it at work as well years ago because it took 40 minutes to copy her profile on login/logout.

They are where I put them. Never used a search function once like this. Perhaps it’s because I lived in the days before search was even a thing.

My commiserations. We don't do standups. Drop 15 mins in whoever's calendar and use the phone works. Yes we're that backwards! Every alternate Friday lunch time we meet up in person though.

I wonder how all these absolutist methodologies really work when you take subjectivity and our general inability to measure anything reliably away? I say this because we've tried all of them after someone read an article on a blog sayi

We just did that and blamed it on AI. Amazing how you can AI to increase stock price and bury things at the same time! (And yes we are pissed about it)

Some of the people on there are real as well despite being nearly indistinguishable from LLM excrement. I never used it but a couple of my colleagues do and show me some of the stuff in there.

Correct. LLMs are the problem not AI as a whole. They are a universal hammer made of shit.

This is fairly normal. I’ve seen it in every corporate job I’ve had. Most people seemed to have a retirement clock running and wanted to avoid doing anything they don’t give a crap about until then. Giving a crap about your job is an outlie

100% agree with this. My second degree is in mathematics. Not only can I probably not do these but they likely aren’t useful to my work so I don’t actually care. I’m not sure an LLM could replace the mathematical side of my work (modelling)
