It's not so much decentralization as chaos engineering. Building the program with withstand failure after failure, of things in and out, of your control. Seems like Slack needs some chaos engineers...

It's okay for our use case. Honestly, we were just wanting to get a load balancer up and working with consul, and we had grpc services and internal http apps to balance. I'm not going to lie; it works and does failover correctly,

We tried Traefik, but ultimately went with Fabio, which also integrates with Consul nicely; plus it does tcp based stuff for unencrypted gRPC services we shuffle around (which at the time, traefik didn't have.)

Docker has reached the point that it is complicated. A lot of people never did cgroups just because it is lower, starting to touch kernel stuff. Few people want to go there. Docker is one of those things that you can install and run; it t

I like your example of pong; because it illustrates how a simple problem of 'AI winning' can spiral out of control into a nightmare of work. On the other hand. Pong is simple with 1 rule. Starcraft, or in this case Dota, have mult

I listen to the local police radio a bit, and if the caller is on a cell phone; they usually have the location of said phone. I might be misreading, but if they need a warrant to track, wouldn't they need a warrant to get a singular lo

Transactions isn't the issue; you can push a lot per second. The problem is throughput, and wait time. Throughput, is the whole block size problem; and that whole can of worms. Most people don't want to wait an hour plus or minus,

Technically, you can build the Darwin kernel from source, since they have it out there, along with some of their other, basic apps. The rub for me was you needed to compile the kernel on a Mac to start with. This was all years ago, and a lo

With this, 1.1.1.1, and the whole DNS over HTTPS thing; I'm thinking Cloudflare has something more... nefarious going on underneath. I have no real reason to suspect it, but... a lot of what they are doing have large privacy concerns,

Working with Mellanox cards for a few weeks; the MTU matters a lot. The difference between an iperf test measuring 14 Gbits/s on MTU 1500 vs. 40 Gbits/s on MTU 9000. We got a couple of Connect-X5 cards, which allow switchless conn
