Just re-commenting from above: my Mazda Protege (with the same engine shown in the video) has 233k and is still going strong, doesn't burn barely a drop of oil. Pretty amazing for a 20-year old car.

It's so true, isn't it? But we've got a pretty long way to go. Mazda, whose Z5 engine is being disassembled in the video is introducing a compression ignition gasoline engine in 2019 with claimed 20-30% efficiency benefits!

Fantastic video, and timely -- just spent a few days cursing at a Mazda Z5 engine (in a 97 Protege) myself! Really, it's a pretty great engine, but with 233k miles a little grumpy.

A quick comment from a 30+-year boat owner: you always overpay. You may think you're getting a deal, but it's never actually true.

Wired'd print magazine is easily the least-readable mag on the planet. Among other poor style choices, they abandoned text borders some years back - text blocks are within tiny fractions of character width from high-contrast (often j

I also think that, even if all the information is efficiently baked into price, price isn't the predictor - the information doing the baking is. If you use the "predictant" as the predictor, you won't get very good resul

Maybe they just know way more about software development than the engineering manager if said engineering manager has never done actual software development. Of course both viewpoints are valid, I'm just really feeling the commenter&#x

Man does that ring true on this Friday morning. I'm working with an intern who's implementing a "proof-of-concept" for voice control using both Alexa and API.AI (Google). He's a CS freshman. It's amazing what

I don't think they are technically pyramid schemes either, as pyramid schemes require multiple levels. I think it's just fraud: taking people's money with no intent or ability to return anything.

Technically, I don't think you can call it a Ponzi scheme unless you're paying existing ICO owners with new, incoming ICO buyers' money. Coins sort of prevent that? I think it's technically just fraud: they take your mo

And yes, I tried going back to the old driver used in 14.04 (psmouse!) on 16.04 to try and get it to work, and I can't seem to make that work either. Hardware and Linux. Ugh.

My experience was that my trackpads worked perfectly with 12.04 and 14.04, but in 16.04 they changed the driver to... something that uses 'synclient' to adjust parameters. And this was a disaster; there are some 60 params that

Anyone have RSI problems with mice? I switched to a touchpad over 10 years ago, and my right hand RSI problems went away. But with an Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade, the touchpad driver went to hell (don't get me started...) and I've been u

Curious about people's experience w/Turo. Seems like a good way to enhance a new car-buying experience. Other than that, it seems weird from the car owner's perspective.

Interesting to note that this[0] article from Magnetics Magazine in 2016 has exactly zero mention of FeN magnets. Vapor? [0] http://www.magneticsmagazine.com/main/articles/permanent-mag...

I think, sadly, that this is the essence of the "problem". That is, few people outside of those who know about consumer data collection actually care about it. And it is one reason why we are hurtling inexorably to Idiocracy...
