Google doesn't use a service like Markmonitor or one of the dozens of other professional asset management companies to register their domains? Huh.

Just try using a system on a "captive portal" wifi connection. You will soon learn "apt purge systemd-resolvd".

That's because distro releases just love to keep changing where network configuration goes. NetworkManager? No it's in sysconfig/interfaces. No that was last release. Now it's in a netplan YAML file you get to learn all

I agree. In my experience with systemd-resolvd, things happen that make it _believe_ there is no DNS configured, and you end up with something incomprehensible (a "hidden default" or some such). Please let it just fail so that one

My router (runs Tomato, but I think DD-WRT is the same) automatically puts host names into its DNS server; I've never had to do anything. Host names with spaces, etc (e.g., DNS non-compliant) don't work, but otherwise it Just Work

Hey, looks pretty good - the hourly wind graphs are a primary chart for our local neighborhood here. I'll have to see if the newer-model Ambient here can be pointed to PWS.

Weatherunderground hater here. There are a large number of stations (Ambient Weather is a big seller in the US) that hook up neatly and conveniently to only supply data to wunderground. But then you are 100% reliant upon them for their gr

A counter example of an unintelligent washing machine: My Whirlpool emitted a diagnostic puddle of water underneath it. I Googled the seal, ordered it from an independent supplier, and installed it myself. It is now on its 25th year of use

Do you run mysql / MariaDB? That's the one that bites me, 100% of the time. There are other packages that often require "adjustments" but the db makes dist-upgrade a total fail for me. Not fun with servers, unfortunately

I think the point is that this is testing your MTA, not his. I.e., if you're connecting directly to unverified.email, you're not really testing whatever your app uses for outbound. Afaict, this isn't a forwarder, just a mai

For non-hams, "high frequncy" here refers to the "HF" band of roughly 3-30MHz. Or, as anyone else might call it, low frequency. Afaik, it didn't work at whatever it was trying to do, which IIIRC had something to do

Modes generally suck, but are often either unavoidable or better than the alternatives. For example, every graphics program has a "mode" for creating e.g., curves, whereas the "default mode" is selecting. This is very mu

Rsync doesn't replace DNS. It is a file copying mechanism, not an addressing system. When an IP address changes, no amount of rsync will fix it. The IP address is simply out of band.
