What is your utilization? IMHO I would rather do one EC2 instance then have EC2 Batch spot and lambda workers take the other load. In a good design most media assets should never hit the full time provisioned server.

It is visually appealing but sluggish and sucks at non-standard authentication to the point of not being usable. Also no out of the box way to run more than one instance with incognito tabs to have communication to test multi-user bugs. Per

I think the answer is Linux on Linux. Fault Tolerant Linux on Distributed Machine Linux on traditional multicore Linux. Distributed machine Linux just sees the multicore Linux boxes as devices. Fault Tolerant Linux does reruns when things f

What devs really want: * Easy simulation of networks between cgroups. * A mechanism for splitting a ulimit across kernels. * Hot swappable kernels and kernel tuning parameters so machines can be quickly re-configured.

1) What is the latency within an AWS Region for a key lookup? 2) What is the latency of a global sync between all AWS regions for say a 100kb update?

Watch the lawsuits fly from their trade violations during COVID-19. I think the early shutdowns violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act will hit them hardest - my house was delisted without fair notice - hitting me so hard the property had

It's been a drag on the U.S. economy for decades. Design by PowerPoint. Even Drucker in "The Practice of Management" didn't preach technical ignorance - but federation (2 pizza rule) and nurturing the craftsmen. What I w

I'd negotiate with TSMC to build a EU plant and a recycling center to source rare earths. Compare this deal and chose the one that is more economical.

How many M1s can Apple fit in a rack? 256? IBM should ship a water cooled rack and hook them in the same toroidal topology as Blue Gene/L and figure out a real Borg like scheduler for them.

On the flip side, I see a lot more Github style buyout deals - but with companies splitting the pie by pooling their public stock. Like IBM and Walmart going in to buy GitLab.

You can arbitrage AWS with your own servers as long as network costs don't eat you. Run say a TravisCI type service on your own hardware? The big lockin is network pricing. No egress fees when their data is already in S3. You have to r

CodeBuild builds Docker images. You can write a proxy wrapper in a few lines. Write a lambdalith that processes all the root level functionality.

For urbit to be relevant it needs a libc and coreutils. Even Rust doesn't have a solid coreutils yet.

Interest on short term holdings - sweet. Then again, AWS is a bank that gives 30 day loans - they still win because the payment friction is after the fact.

It's a joy to deploy. I loved the IBM Blue Gene/L. Like AWS Lambda, except instead of a zip you deployed a static linked binary.

I bet it is far more than just M1. For the first time I launched an m6g (Gravition 2) instance of AWS Linux2. Ruby and node are working without a hitch. Bye bye x86. sudo yum update sudo yum install git gpg2 --recv-keys 409B6B1796C275462A1
