In my anecdotal experience the trend seems to be the less well-off families have stay-at-home moms, while the well-off professionals both work. It largely seems that the "no one can afford kids" idea is an excuse to not give up th

It's 3 servers so it's not too much hassle to ssh into them and check it manually.

Almost lol: grep, sort and uniq. If I notice someone is hammering my employer's ecommerce site, I'll block them. It isn't required often so I've been reluctant to spend the time setting up fail2ban.

Exactly this. It's no different from a bot pretending to be Googlebot. I've tried reporting abusive IPs to various foreign hosts, but nothing every comes to it. I've settled for just blacklisting excessively abusive IP ranges

You can handle all of that in high school, but suddenly can't handle the mental stress of a grade report your first semester of college? Give me a break.

Children cost relatively little themselves. What "costs" a lot is the opportunity cost of the mother not working, or paying a salary to someone else to watch your kids.

I don't doubt you could host this site on any old Raspberry PI, but I guarantee it's hosted in a data center.

There's a 100% chance this very website you're arguing on is hosted in one if not more data centers.

The nice thing about running a microVM like a container is the interface is relatively easy, especially if you've used containers before.

Do you have a strategy for secrets? Such as storing them, or using MitM to inject them (e.g., HTTP API requests)? I've used squid cache in the past, and currently use iron-proxy for this sort of feature.

I know it's a losing battle. The way I see it is if you're not going to test performance under pressure, give everyone as much time as they want (within reason). If you want a fair stress test, don't discriminate and give spe

Gondolin looks interesting. It sounds like a TypeScript wrapper that achieves the same thing as my setup: Docker & Kata Containers 4 (KVM/QEMU backend) for microVMs, iron-proxy for egress and secrets, and dnsmasq for internal netwo

So Docker is finally adding native support for a microVM backend? I wonder how it well it will compare to using the Kata Containers 4 runtime with the KVM/QEMU backend.

You can use AI as part of your editing process. But it needs to be a process, back and forth with human input, and human editing at the end. What people primarily complain about it pure AI text. It has sentences a paragraph long using every

This is more my problem with it. Obvious AI usage tends to be slop content, so any sign of it becomes a useful heuristic as to whether the subject is useless spam/slop. But I'm not anti-AI. It's a category of tools that can b

It's more of just another red flag. If you're speaking a lot without saying anything useful, I'll drop out. This isn't exclusive to AI content but it exacerbates it. Not wanting to read AI slop is now essentially racism?

By wiring up hooks I just mean binding a callback to a button that calls fetch() and processing the response (usually replacing HTML, but may modify content and classes on other elements). Basically what I'm looking for is being able t

This largely describes me. I'm skeptical of AI in that it's capabilities, while very impressive, are vastly oversold and overblown. Being skeptical of AI is not being "Anti-AI". That's largely the AI data centers ar
