I have no use for this either, but I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy not having to install a separate ACME client.

Yes. If you need it earlier you will have to use a separate ACME client.

I guess it depends on the CA, but some do. Let’s Encrypt does, for example. I guess it’s useful for HA deployments, where load balancers might be spread out across multiple datacenters and stuff like that. NB that rate limits apply https:&

Yup. There’s an RFC draft that addresses this dilemma. https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-acme-dns-account...

PS. Oh, this subthread is about Caddy, not Nginx. Nevermind my comment then!

This integration doesn’t support the dns-01 challenge. So wildcard certs are out of the question at this point.

With dns-01, multiple servers could, independently of each other, fetch a certificate for the same set of hostnames. Not sure if it’s a good idea though.

Perhaps I have poor imagination, but I fail to see why why it would matter?

This is a very good point. I wonder what a good solution to this would be? In theory, Nginx could call another application that handles the communication with the DNS provider, so that the user can tailor it to their needs. (The user could

When placing the order, you get a funny text string from the ACME provider. You need to create a TXT record that holds this value. How you create the TXT record is up to you and your DNS server – the ACME provider doesn’t care. I don’t be

dns-01 is also good for services on a private network.

I can relate a lot to this. For most of the years between leaving home and meeting my wife I had at least 1 room-mate. I enjoyed it. Living alone is very boring IMHO.

Just wow! The creatures you have over there are truly fascinating. And scary (: Did it move quickly or slowly? BTW, didn’t know you had magpies too.

I think it shall be interpreted like this: The creature who fell was the horse (that was previously raced past the barn). I.e. it was not the barn that fell.

Did you order a unit from them or how did you manage to get access to the Oxide hardware?

Igalia are very cool! Not sure if it’s so easy to reproduce their success (if I’m wrong on that point, that’s only good I guess).

These days there are very few companies innovating in this space. Oxide is the only one I can think of. (No, HPE and Dell doesn’t count, not in my book at least.) There used to be lots of them, but they all had a very rough time after the 9

AFAIK staying private is nearly impossible after taking VC funding…? Also, what they do is very capital-intensive, so I’m not surprised that they’re raising more money.

To me they are much more similar to Sun than Oracle (before the latter aquired the former).
