Hopefully that company had enabled FDE on those laptops. (It still would be prudent to wipe them before recycling, of course.)

As a workaround, you could try adding this IP address to /etc/hosts as foobar.home.arpa or whatever, and see if that works better.

Have you seen s6? I’d say it’s the modern-day equivalent of daemontools, and it’s under active development. https://skarnet.org/software/

I love that Siebenmann is taking the time to document the nitty-gritty details of the evolution of Unix. Systems like 4.2BSD are long gone from the market, but we still see their influence all over the place.

There is definitely a reason that WordPress is popular. And it’s quite good as a CMS. But have you tried writing your own theme? I looked into it but it just seemed way to convoluted.

IMHO, writing themes for WordPress seems very convoluted. I much prefer how themes are handled in Hugo, which IIRC is based on Go’s standard templating engine. I’ve tried reading up on how to make WordPress themes, but instead of actually w

It’s a tough job market, so I’m not surprised. Demand for developers/other tech roles and overall economy isn’t great right now.

I’m not saying DHH is a great company leader (I don’t know!). But did the business do worse afterwards? Having too many employees can hinder the business, even if they are great people.
