I was a raid leader/main tank for the guild who got the first ever Nefarian kill. We announced on forums that he dropped a head quest similar to Onyxia that turns in at Stormwind and people started flooding our server with new humans,

Are you a developer? In my experience probably 75% of places I've interviewed at do not care or ask about my lack of degree, just if I have the skills experience and personality to do well at what they are looking for.

For me I would say its about simply initial orientation of setting my hands down. Its hard to articulate but like the OP I will never buy one without it again - its just a nice feature that I have decided is essential.

While I agree React without JSX is terrible and React with JSX isn't too great anyways ("className" vs "class"? "defaultChecked" vs "checked"? everything has to be wrapped in a parent or it err

Node-gyp is definitely one of my pain points. Having to install Visual Studio to run a node package seems insane. And it needs 6gb on _all drives_?? It still didn't work until I stumbled upon the --msvs_version flag for npm i. And t

I'm probably the rare developer who prefers the UI and feel of Windows to OSX.. though I am probably a prototypical use case to switch to Mint, but haven't got around to it.

I use Node on both OSX and Windows and its definitely broken in Windows or maybe just not a priority to work well. Getting a full stack modern application working on localhost on a Windows machine is really painful and typical requires hou

Actually gulp has many great ways to work with sourcemaps, browserify, and babel. Google it and you should find a gist. I'm using through2.

I view HN as a forum for professionals so I don't make comments that could negatively impact my professional life here. In that way I think self censure is fine. If you don't agree with my assessment thats fine as well of course

Not that I have any real comparison but I feel like our tech scene is pretty weak. While there are jobs, and companies, they are mostly monolithic fortune 500 dinosaurs. Who in tech wants to work for General Mills?

Yes, it can take a while to get things set up. But you really only need it once. I've used the same core gulpfile for at least a year across multiple projects. And when new things pop up that are useful to your workflow you can inte

No one needs anything. You can write code in notepad. No one wants that, and no one wants to have a million globals on the browser or hit F5 every single save any more. While there is a learning curve to something like gulp, you really o

Well management is different. Its very easy for a developer to hop from a junior position to a mid level to senior to lead if they have the chops both technically and personality-wise.

Not OP but I only played VI once and thought it to be fairly pale in comparison to V, which to me is still the seminal game in its genre. IV was amazing but rough, VI was fairly retread, V got it just right I think.

On the front end you can get babel to work with sourcemaps fairly easily depending on what build tool you use.
