It's not about ethics, it's about what's reasonable. Yeah it sucks that the author can't uphold the lifetime license, but the alternative is that he closes up shop. $20 frickin dollars, man. Less than $1 per year, and yo

I wish I could have a list of everyone who thinks $20 for 20 years of support is unreasonable, so I could avoid having them as customers.

The owner at a boutique engineering firm I worked for told me that in a large corporation the best thing you can do is massively fuck up at the beginning. Everybody would learn about you and then eventually forget what you did wrong. The ex

I found this tool for converting HDL to PCB layout with discrete logic. It should make the dream of a wall sized computer much easier lol. https://hackaday.com/2021/11/13/using-vhdl-to-generate-discr...

You could script Libre Office to do this.

If I were you, I'd use Node/express with server side rendered templates. It's pretty straightforward for a simple project that needs a backend.

I've fenced on and off for 20 years, and the worst injury I've seen is bruises, thank goodness. My only concern these days is the blade breaking and sliding under the throat guard.

I think it's reasonable to say that having 25 projects on free tier is excessive. So, be outraged all you want. Can I borrow your car? I'll only put 20k miles on it, no big deal, man! Oh you won't? Do you know where I can use

I don't really care to hear what they have to say on the subject at all. They're freeloaders.

I have zero sympathy for these guys, nor for anyone else running their business on free tier infrastructure. This is the kind of customer nobody needs.

I see Supabase's Realtime hasn't reached the production milestone yet. How far away is that? I'm interested in using it for an offline first app. Watermelon sync would be nice.

I think there is a lot of fatigue from the type of low effort, low value interactions that Tinder et al facilitate. I have no marketing data available, but I would guess there is demand for an app that at least makes an effort to create hig

In my experience, Okcupid's match percentage was a very good estimate for how good of a match you were with someone. So there was that. Plus, the whole OKCupid experience wasn't a game of deception to trick you into buying subscri

If I could have come up with a cheap solution, I would have done it already. It would probably be worth it to pay Kim Kardashian her $250k featured post fee to get a bunch of women to join. Something along those lines.

If someone reproduced what OKCupid was before the Match acquisition, that would disrupt the dating app market. Dating apps as a whole have been a race to the bottom thanks to Match.

Don't let someone gaslight you into thinking you're being irrational. You're right to be concerned about a single point of failure for your business.

This approach of inviting confrontation is bound to backfire eventually. The outsiders don't know if you're a Karen high on a power trip or just high.

This gives me flashbacks to undergrad engineering courses. Nearly none of my professors, at a top 10 electrical engineering program, were able to explain things very well. Then you'd have to dive into poorly written textbooks to figure

That's been my pet hypothesis for a few years, but I wouldn't argue for it. I just base it on some of the disgusting, unethical things I saw while living in China.

I haven't really needed much added to MicroPython or CircuitPython for my use cases, but I see people on r/python or r/iot or wherever gripe occasionally. Thanks for the video link!

I keep seeing this sentiment on HN-are fpgas something hobbyists actually get much value from? Do hobbyists learn Boolean algebra and know how to do things like design state machines from standard logic and rom? Programming in HDL is fundam

In general with the the embedded Pythons, they are 2 or 3 orders of magnitude slower than C (big surprise) and they don't support all the hardware features. By necessity, they have a one-size-fits all approach that works fine for hobby

I'd take every claim in this article with a grain of salt. There simply isn't much documentation from that time in the Mongol empire.

This seems to be an ongoing trend, and this article continues the trend by casting the Mongols as some kind of egalitarian society. 20 years ago-ish, a book came out about Chingis Khan that extolled the virtues of his multicultural, panthei

I've looked through the blog posts, and I don't see which contract manufacturers they are using. Anyone know who they use for the plastic molds? It would be nice to know the pros and cons of the CMs people are using.
