So, uh, could they show what they used to get those numbers? A EC2 micro vs. the GCE big version (I'm not familiar enough with GCE). I'll note a HUGE factor is missing: the word 'cost' isn't even in the article. How much more (or less) ar

Keeping the image in one region allows the customer to guarantee data provenance - EU folks don't want their data accidentally getting stuck on US servers (and the other way around).

And the further you get into that stuff, the more you figure out that under everything is legal, contractual, and in many cases, purely personal relationships that keep the thing running. Some folks say that's 'Layer 8' on the OSI model, I

We do (Big 4 team) - it's the only way I'll hire somebody for our team, if I have a say in it (which I normally do). I find it's FAR more effective than reading resumes sent in blindly. We do bonus for new hires (a few $K), which helps get

It says the IPs were determined to geo-locate to the Pudong New Area in Shanghai, and jumped from there straight to the PLA Unit that happens to be in Shanghai. No big leap, Pudong only has 5 million inhabitants, roughly the size of the Was

It did, and probably still does to a lesser extent. It doesn't cost any real time or effort to scan most port ranges these days - especially with EC2 and other big cloud vendors and super fast multi-gigabit network connections.
