This seems to happen whenever Javascript crypto is brought up. It's crazy. SSL a little bit of work and it costs $ to purchase a cert (but not very much). It's a bit more CPU overhead on the server but most people have cycles to spare. For

Have you tried renice'ing the Fireworks process while it's running on Wine? I got Counter-Strike playable at about 30fps that way on a fairly weak machine (Core 2 Duo w/ 2GB RAM). Not bad, really.

"A Junior-to-Mid Level Developer" ... Which is it? Pick one. Also, "I've been out of work and on the job hunt for a year." This may be true but is not a selling point. Say instead, "I'm available for work, contract or full time, right now.

Not for the Facebook API. I was talking about FogBugz and Kiln whose documentation was entirely replaced by Stack Exchange. Sorry for the confusion, I really took this thread far afield.

I would like to say that I've been generally happy with Stack Overflow as the official Q&A site for Android Developers. It seems to work pretty well for that purpose and I usually find what I need.

Sorry I deleted my post before I saw your reply because it was ridiculously off-topic and I felt like it didn't really belong.. But to provide some context I essentially said that Stack Exchange was an unacceptable replacement for a manua

I have a friend at a Fortune 500 where I used to work who started working as an administrative assistant (secretary) and now 4 years later is a project manager and is making more than I did as a fresh out of college as a junior dev. She onl

I'm not sure how you can download an extension before installing but in Ubuntu after you've installed it you can look at the source under ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions/ (or in Windows C:\Users\You\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Us

I believe I've seen tptacek say a liquor store in Englewood, Chicago with bulletproof glass in front of the cashier is more secure than a 7-11 in Lincoln Park, but the 7-11 is safer. Or something like that. :)

OK so we should come right out and say it then rather than beating around the bush. What you're trying to say is the one thing Detroit, Rhodesia, and South Africa have in common is large numbers of black people, right? If we're going to be

I doubt cutting the second half of the headline is editorializing. HN only allows 80 characters in submission titles and this one weighs in at about 67. The submitter may have tried the whole headline first then cut the second half of the h

My WP theme is from WooThemes and it includes "thumb.php" which upon inspection is timthumb.php. The blog post says to patch this you should remove the list from the allowedSites variable which I have done... I'll look at this more tomorrow

Right. I've sub-let an apartment and I was definitely concerned before I did it. If I'm super uncomfortable renting to someone through AirBnB, I'm just not their target market and I suppose a 50K guarantee would probably cover a lot of mish

A $50,000 guarantee seems a bit low. Condos in OK neighborhoods here in Chicago start at around 200K so theoretically a lot more than 50K in damage could be done.

Sure. I consider myself a feminist insofar as I believe all people should be treated equally, with respect and dignity.

And before everyone starts bashing feminism by lumping them all in with Dworkin and the most extreme examples, please try getting to know one first. Their views are usually pretty reasonable.
