"Designer - Makes a product look pretty". Ugggghhh... obviously not a big deal (very tongue-in-cheek) but this rankled me even as a non-designer.

Interesting strategy. Focus on the only advantage local papers have -- the deep local connection -- and build the strategy around that. Might be a leaner newspaper with a smaller readership... but that will happen anyways. Coupling this 'de

Yes, it speaks to HR's problem - but in a way that jeopardizes their objective (i.e. hiring good people). Quality devs are in short supply already... explicitly saying that you're treating them like cattle is not going to result in better o

Leaving aside whether or not this is a valid way to attract top people, my suggestion is to rebrand the name - "cull" has too negative a connotation ("cull the herd"). So #1, I'm part of "the herd", and #2 this tool is being used to possibl

Modular, open-source robotics running on ROS is clearly the way to go vs. the expensive 'black box' proprietary platform / software. From the conversations I've had with people in the industry, it certainly feels like robotics is approachin

I guess some people's problem is that we "care what [the beggars] do with it" when we give money. i.e. I don't want to give someone money that they'll use to further destroy their life with drugs/alcohol/whatever. I don't want to be complic

A quick note for anyone thinking that this could help you build that finance app you've been putting off - getting actual real-time stock quotes legitimately is actually fairly expensive/involved. Screen scraping Google / Yahoo finance and

I think it's a fine balance between the two. Unless I'm already hooked into reading more, wading through paragraphs of oh-so-stylish writing isn't a pleasant task. My $0.02 - the trick is to capture the attention with a blurb at the beginni

It's not 1% of the overall equity - you're just pledging the cash value of 1% of YOUR SHARE of equity. Investors obviously don't care about how you manage your personal cash post-exit.

This is a great idea when dealing with small clients. The big challenge, however, is that the majority of the organizations that rely on RFP (e.g. public sector or enterprise buyers) do so because they HAVE TO for policy / political reasons

I'll start. In a former life, we were bidding on an RFP that had to be hand-delivered to the purchasing office by 12:00pm. For various reasons, we ended up getting there a bit late at 11:50am - so 10 minutes to get to the office. The elevat

Leaving aside questions about sample size / methodology / etc, here are the big surprises for me: FRAMEWORKS - CodeIgniter at 6%. I use it for some projects, but I'm surprised that 6% of 'top developers' are still using it too given that it

I agree that coding your design into HTML/CSS is a waste of time generally. I've had good luck with PSD-to-HTML services. So instead of Adobe automagically converting my design to HTML/CSS/images, you get humans from India (or wherever) doi

I can't tell if you're joking or not... so I'll just reiterate my main point: men fighting to prevent the suffering and death of their families is not even remotely the same category of thing as startups (and business in general). We can re

What's the cost of living like down there? What's the equivalent of ($40k in Chile) in a typical US city? i.e. ($40k in Chile = $x in Atlanta). Seems like a cool program, just trying to understand how far that $40k would go (or even the $5k

Adobe's BrowserLab does this ( https://browserlab.adobe.com/ ) for mainstream Mac/Windows browsers. You need an AdobeID (registration is free). I've found it much faster than browsershots.org (though you have fewer options). No mobile suppo

You could think about it as 'real-time' in the sense that you can see the status of the sharing in 'real-time' - i.e. within Kik I can see if the content has been sent/delivered/read (vs sharing via something like email where it's not cle
