If you can do it in one line of shell then do it - you don't need a build system. I don't understand why everyone sees it as a competition - just use the right tool for the problem you need to solve.

fs.watch actually doesn't work just fine, not sure what gave you that impression. We went with the best file watcher that was around at the time because we didn't feel the need to write our own. The layers of abstraction are there

One of my projects is on this list. #95 - https://github.com/wearefractal/glob-watcher Just a small Javascript module I wrote to power gulpjs ( http://gulpjs.com ). This system is totally broken.

On a scale of 1 to 8 I would rate this a 4. The idea is good but fails to deliver the execution I expect from a pre-workout glitch.

This article is really making a lot of broad assumptions about what people are making APIs for and how people write code. "Now you hit an API that has to do some async behaviour and now your screwed. There are some solutions for that b

gulp is always going to be faster than grunt as long as grunt writes temporary files to disk. Using 3 plugins processing 20 files as an example: grunt will do 60 reads, 60 writes while gulp will do 20 reads, 20 writes

You can totally use gulp plugins outside of gulp. Since they are just streams, you can do some really cool stuff. I would love to see an http wrapper so you can do wrap(req).pipe(uglify()).pipe(res)

Author of gulp here. I've rewritten the example from the blog post to follow gulp best practices. https://gist.github.com/Contra/8780398 The code from the post is misleading/outdated.

Why not use backwards document references? Put the post id on each comment and query like Comments.find({post: post._id}, {limit: 30}) to get 30 comments. Why would you store all of the comments for a Post on the post itself?

Why not just publish a JSON file? It's not like the data source is that large or changes often. No reason to have an API for this

No - it loaded grooveshark.com with the node module "request" and used cheerio to get the session id from the page source. Then API calls are made with the session id and client info. The APIs don't require a login or any authentication

.url is a part of the meta info from the api - there is no downloading functionality in the api library itself. The song url is just the culmination of the song id and your session
