That's not distributed then (OP was asking about distributed services without containers).

IMHO that's the beauty of HN. By "sifting" through "unrelevant" submissions you discover things that you wouldn't have looked at otherwise.

Interesting. My sister and I both had mononucleosis before puberty, and she was diagnosed with MS in her late twenties.

Or just use litestream, it‘s perfect for this and the closest you can get to managed by replicating to S3 or Cloud Storage or the likes.

Remix.run has this figured out. Basically your backend is just a loader/hook that is colocated in the same js file. It would be great to have this idea in Rails view layer, for more complex UX cases.

Thanks, this was missing for me in the Motivation section on the blog post. It was a genuine question, not sure why it‘s downvoted.

So you're calling Graphql via PostgREST, but I didn't ready about why you're including Graphql in the first place. Isn't it orthogonal to PostgREST which is already used in your stack?

In Switzerland, most (e-commerce) businesses allow to buy on invoice, e.g. you just pay by providing your name and address. Is this prevalent in other countries? The shop usually provides 2-4 weeks of credit until that invoice gets paid eve

It's great so see more investment by European infrastructure providers like Hetzner, Scaleway and more recently Infomaniak. Even though they're years behind in terms of features, their base offerings have improved a lot over time

I really don‘t want a smartphone, but what I need in a simple device like this is a camera for qr code scanning and support for 2factor apps.

Today at work we just talked about the problem you‘re solving, funny to see this here. We maintain a couple of importers for competitor data, most of which are DB dumps or collections of pdfs and images. We‘d love to have it be somewhat se

I’m not sure who put it this succinctly, but I remember it generalized this way: a framework calls your code, but you call the library’s code.

It probably matters how this opinion is formed. Often it’s formed first by your own pain, and if you start talk to people and do user research you might discover that you’re on to something.

I use busybox httpd to run my blog via cloud run. It’s a fun setup, using a multistage dockerfile to build the static pages and then create a super small busybox image which just serves those pages.

Congrats on building this! I've had the exact same idea and pain for many of the projects I've worked on, so happy to see this out there and I hope you'll be successful with it!

Funny enough I was looking into mbtiles serverless solutions before I went to bed, now I start my day browsing HN and I find this clever solution. Love HN for this type of stuff :)

I use the Cloud Run free tier. I just build a tiny busybox image and serve the static pages via httpd. It‘s git push to Github to deploy. Obviously not a low tech solution, but was still fun to build.

Idk, this whole article felt contrived, but it's great that Gitlab aspires to be better than Heroku. We need that, since I feel Heroku has stagnated a bit, and it's cool someone is picking this up. Heroku first and foremost gives

That‘s a bit dismissive. I know plenty of teams using Jira without needing this, and they‘re all unhappy with Jira anyway.

In Switzerland it's the same. In my state/canton they don't even have enough vaccine for the high risk group of 240k people.

It's funny how the author talks about vendor lock-in (which is kind of a non-issue with tailwind, since you can eject anytime) and then suggests styled-jsx as the better solution.

I think it's the exact opposite. Having maintained some else's CSS on dozens of projects, Tailwind is soo easy to keep maintained. You don't have to learn some else's idea of what CSS belongs to a component and how they
