Awesome, I used this technique to find the dominant color in favicons so I could create a gradient in NewsBlur. See the effect here: http://cl.ly/KElb Here's the Python I use to do it: https://github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlur/blob/master/u

I'm one of those quotes (talking about NewsBlur) and I just tried to give back to an amazing tool in my tech stack by being effusively honest. Honestly, I think they deserve more credit and was a bit surprised that they chose my quote over

Actually, it's considerably simpler than that. If you let me know, I will gladly remove the site from the Original view. Alternatively, for sites that employ iframe busters, NewsBlur adheres to their intention and disables the original view

As I always like to say in response to our design flaws, "Hey, at least we shipped!" And it's true, what you see is a solid foundation. We're going to be giving it the full makeover soon. The only way we know that it'll be worth it is if we

This is a big release and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. That said, the next big launch coming up will involve a design refresh for both web and mobile. I'm meeting with our designers later today and hope to ship the best loo

Hey the_bear, I really like The Yummy Life. Just wanted to let you know I added it as a default subscription to the NewsBlur iPad app. This just means that if new users subscribe to the Food category, they'll get TYL. There's only 8 categor

The intention is to keep NewsBlur open-source. We'll see how that goes. The other intention is to never have to raise more money, but we'll see how that goes. I have big plans for what I want to build, but to do it, I need seed funding. Aft

Also, I can't emphasize this enough, but you should follow NewsBlur's development on GitHub: http://github.com/samuelclay . NewsBlur is open-source for a few good reasons: 1. NewsBlur makes money off hosting 2. NewsBlur greatest benefit is

That's one of the tenets of NewsBlur -- by using NewsBlur's training filters, you can hide stories you don't want to see while highlighting the stories you want to focus on.

Not as far as I can help it. NewsBlur makes money through hosting. And our competitive edge is the network. Giving back to the open-source community is in my blood, especially after my work on DocumentCloud.

Yeah, the titles on blurblogs broke in the transition. Will be fixed momentarily. And if blurblogs take off, we will be collapsing comments from "public", but no need to limit growth now when we need it most. But we are planning to limit th

You mean keeping stories indefinitely? Absolutely, it's just a technical limitation right now. At some point we'll move to a real archive.

Thrilled to be launching NewsBlur's social features. NewsBlur has become something much bigger than what I ever thought possible when I wrote the first line of code in June 2009 in the New York City underground. We're now two people and YC-
