There is a mention of `json.dumps` being too naive to be used in an API, and there's good reason for that. If you want a more advanced JSON serializer for Django, here's what I use on NewsBlur. From https://github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlur/b

NewsBlur (social feed reader) uses Redis pubsub for real-time as well: http://blog.newsblur.com/post/20371256202/building-real-time... . Now I'll have up to 500 concurrent clients, but I couldn't be happier with how utterly simple it was t

I do the dishes. Since I can go into automatic mode, the hot water loosens me up and I get to daydream. More often than not these dreams can turn into future features for my project. Any chance I can take to daydream I take. It's a lucid dr

There's a Feed view, which is what you're referring to, as well as an Original view. There is also a Story view, which shows you the click-through of the story, which is convenient for some feeds, like Hacker News. The majority of sites tha

The new social features will. I've been posting about the beta on Twitter, and because the beta is still buggy as sin, I wanted only less invested users (like on a random tread) and highly invested users (twitter followers) to be the cataly

You only spent 2 minutes learning about a product that has many moving parts. I spend a lot of time working on the flow and design of NewsBlur. I think if you give it it's proper due, you'll find yourself astounded by all the attention to d

I think the biggest problem with RSS is that you divorce the content from the context. Both from the publisher's standpoint, when their ads aren't being served or they decide to truncate their RSS feed so they can get ad revenue back from c

I wouldn't go so far as to say there was a high demand for real-time. But some users asked for it by name, and generally, increasing speed (lowering latency) correlates strongly with increased usage. If I can make page loads faster, and fee

Originally this blog post was going to be a "and so can you" type post. I thought it was kind of important to set the tone to say that I'm a schlub who just pushed hard enough on the persistence/patience/perseverance/perspiration mix. It en

Yeah, I noticed that my Stack Overflow profile was outdated, as well as GitHub and others. In fact, my personal blog still says I'm working on DocumentCloud. This is a problem needing solving. Or not.

I don't see NewsBlur as competing with other RSS feed readers, many of which are seeing declining use and are either folding or are in the process of folding. NewsBlur, on the other hand, is doing very well because I'm charging people and c

Love the idea, but it wouldn't work for NewsBlur. While Pinboard charges once for being able to store bookmarks and all of the associated meta-data, he actually charges $25/year for the archival subscription, which is where a whole lot more

Yup: http://github.com/samuelclay . And the hosted option is at www.newsblur.com, but you can host your own. It's a buck a month to have me host it for you (and do all the necessary feed fetching).
