I run 100 droplets on DO and fetch 7MM feeds a day and have never had an issue with DO, either limiting me or turning off my machines. In fact, I've had the opposite experience: fast support, fast spin-up times, and an overall great se

Is the FT232R (an FTDI chip) the least expensive way to get USB to Arduino? I'm trying to hookup a wireless nrf24L01+ to USB (which talks to another nrf24l01+ and an atmega328p), and I'm looking at PIC chips which are around $2, w

I've always been envious of those that get invited to Foo Camp, but it always felt contradictory to take dozens of introverts who do their best work alone and glue them together to build ideas. I like socializing while drinking occasio

NewsBlur has this, just hit 'g'. It's also fuzzy and allows you to make typos, yet it keeps the last useful results on screen.

Hit shift+E then shift+F. That opens "Everything" which is the river of news, then fullscreens it so it's a single framed river of news.

DigitalOcean is my fourth host in four years. I just spent two years with a company inexplicably named Reliable Hosting Services before I switched. Switching hosting providers is surprisingly easy, since I just replicate out my DBs and then

Modern machines is my guess. Many other cloud providers and hosting companies are running machines from a few years ago. I don't believe the price has stayed competitive to the power, so DO is effectively arbitraging the price differen

Network performance is fine, network reliability is the one you need to watch out for. I'm still working on getting some automated script to detect longer than expected timeouts through HAProxy and then issue a VM reboot through DO

NewsBlur is mentioned in the article, but I cannot overstate how positive my experience with DigitalOcean has been. I'm stressing their biggest machines and spinning up dozens of differently configured boxes and they've handled it

The iOS app for NewsBlur should be a 1-for-1 representation of what you get on the web. They are both first-class apps, which means support should be 100% for both. I also just released an update to the iOS app yesterday.

Maciej Ceglowski actually did the opposite with Pinboard, in that the signup fee increases over time. I worry that with a decreasing signup fee, you incentivize potential early-adopters into waiting longer until the price drops.

The unread issue was fixed 2 months ago. The most recent bug only lasted for 30 minutes and was the result of one of my app servers being down and HAProxy just kept serving requests to it. In other words, 1 out of every 12 requests would fa

I went back and forth between both for a couple months and I can assure you that the new design is much better. It looks overly subtle now, but after your eyes and brain get used to it, you'll think the blue one was hideous.

Here's The Verge's article on the redesign launch: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/4350208/how-sam-clay-and-n... Little by little sure does add up. I've been working on the redesign for iOS, android, and both the web app and blurblogs (

I use aggregation queries regularly and it's amazing. My MongoDB database has 4k ops/sec and I run an aggregation query to count averages, sums, and splits on a name (to get averages and sums for each of two dozen groups) for about 10K rows

The transfer speed is between data centers. West coast to east coast. As for the 100GB, I have 12 task servers with 6-8 processes each reading 25-50 stories each every 4 seconds. I also have 18 app servers with 6-8 processes each reading 12

Because that server isn't in the cloud. It's on leased hardware, so no ability to snapshot. Plus, I like it when I can replicate my data without worry. I don't want to have to rely on block-level replication.
