It'll get worse. The US has lived above its means for a while, and it would need a big tax increase to only maintain the current level of service, no fancy extras.

Where's the money for local services supposed to come from? Why should you be allowed to monopolize a piece of finite and scarce resource, land, for free? Since you think it's a scam, surely you support 100% capital gains taxes on

"Capturing the value you create" is a euphemistic way to describe pushing producer surplus towards 100% and consumer surplus to 0%, your ability to pull it off depends on your monopoly power, and it would be more honestly describe

The armies of millions of scammers, thieves and organized criminals out there are also abusive and exploitative.

I just found there's two separate bugs: sometimes the page goes blank but the URL stays, sometimes it loses the URL too and the back/forward button so everything's gone.

The "safety drivers" do nothing. They sit in the passenger seat and the only thing they have is a button that presumably stops the car and lets a remote operator take over.

Not so much "aiming" as doing it. The alternative already exists, is open-source, and used by 40,000 government users. By 2027 all government agencies will use it exclusively.

What blows my mind isn't the pervasive bugs throughout the system, which you could attribute to a poorly-run division or dysfunctional company. It's that the basic shit is now so broken. Safari is unusable with too many tabs bec

I've been dismayed by how fast the "we should own our hardware" crowd has so quickly radicalized into "all security features are evil", and "no security features should exist for anyone". Not just "th

The median user's threat model doesn't include the government, but does include data loss, forgetting the password, or a thief stealing your laptop. Microsoft struck the right balance. I'm glad the knee-jerk absolutists are m

Why not have a "rewrite policy", criteria for when a rewrite makes sense or doesn't? Surely a random engineer can't decide to rewrite things on his own.

Yep. And there are even more macOS Safari bugs. One is that history search won't work; you'll can type in the search bar but it won't filter the list. At least a few years old. Another bug I've been getting for a few yea

The EU must fix itself, and that means ignoring those NGOs. The EU's current tech laws penalize EU startups vs. US Big Tech. It should be reversed. Remove these worthless regulations (except DMA), and explicitly start discriminating ag

The health dashboard says it only affects Enterprise and IoT. The KB note says “all editions”. Which is it? I wish El Reg did deeper reporting besides their snark shtick. Also, 3/4 of comments here are already off-topic. Never change,

Safari has used way more RAM than Chrome for a decade. It uses more battery in some tests. It starts way slower, Chrome is one bounce and usable immediately, Safari is 2-3 bounces and 3-4 seconds before it starts accepting input.

Surely there are ways to measure its quality objectively, and separate dumb nostalgia from real concerns. Are support tickets down? Is the OS a less frequent root cause for tickets? IT people with big enough fleets could settle this debate.
