I worked for 5 semesters as an undergrad teaching assistant in the CS department of my university. We had generally 1 to 2 cases of cheating per semester in classes of up to 150 students and ~10 assignments. We identified them using Moss[

I'd most likely be a homemaker because that was all that was available to most women 100 years ago. I often count myself lucky that I was born in an age when women can become programmers.

At one point, I (naively) thought that by starting a company, I would be helping to alleviate unemployment in the US because I would be creating jobs. Now I realize that the programmers and designers I employ are/will be people who could h

Speaking as a technical cofounder, it depends on the potential technical cofounders that you meet. Personally, when I met my non-tech cofounder, he already had his idea well thought out to the point where he'd made a trailer video demonstr

This is why it's often a good idea to outsource tasks that aren't your business's core competency. I've used Flurry for mobile stats tracking because they've devoted a lot of time figuring out solutions to problems like this. Time I don't h

I honestly don't understand how this is a scandal at all. Sure, it's a mild annoyance to receive 27 reply-all messages. Newsworthy? Not in the least.

So because there's no history or common idiom referencing women in leadership roles, we should just speak of all hardship as though only men have ever, do ever, and will ever perform in difficult rites of passage? Please. This isn't clumsy,

As a dev with a remote team, Skype 5 is probably my most-used desktop application on OS X, besides my IDE. The other day, after upgrading, I could not for the life of me figure out how to bring up the number key pad while on a voice call.

What I find fascinating about Hedy Lamarr's patent is that it formed the basis, many decades later, for spread-spectrum communication tech used by wifi and CDMA networks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedy_Lamarr#Frequency-hopping_s...

I think this makes a lot of sense. You have to build the cake before you can put the icing on it. Your CSS is invisible unless it has html to decorate.

This isn't a case of "copying" though. That would entail reverse engineering an existing product, which Bing is (according to this post) not doing. They are instead importing the search results themselves from Google.com.

This is awesome. When I was growing up, in Saudi Arabia, I never once saw a Saudi woman at a desk. I've read that King Abdul Aziz University actively recruits women professors and students, and that's such a wonderful thing to hear.
