>>The first thing I'd do is sell Me too. And it looks like that’s what the heirs are doing too. But for David Lynch, I can see why he might want to live amongst the people involved in financing, making, and distributing movies.

In all fairness to Meta, “don’t be evil” was a different company. Meta is the “they trust me, [the] dumb fucks” company. So they’re being somewhat true to their words. /s

California houses are not popular with professional “landlord” investors because the cap rates (net operating income / house value) are poor. Rents are limited to what potential renters are actually able to pay, while the prices are v

In the two cases, the meaning of the message may be the same, but the tone of the message is different. One tone invites further engagement, the other invites disengagement.

I agree with a lot of what you are bringing up, but I don’t think of these things as synonymous with American capitalism as a whole. I think of them more as a failure mode.

It’s hard to compare. Almost everything at a mass market price point is made in China. From luxury iPhones to cheap commodity crap. With the exception of maybe cars, made in USA, Europe or Japan tends to be niche or specialty.

If I think of self-taught engineers who are my peers, they look great. But that’s selection bias. If I think of every self-taught engineer that I’ve ever crossed paths with, there are some that engaged in unscientific magical thinking. Als

If we just forget about AGI for a second, and looked at AI Wars as something in the vein of Search Wars Redux, wouldn’t that explain a lot of the strategy? Granted, history doesn’t exactly repeat itself, it rhymes…

The flip-flop on regulation sounds like: “please regulate us (in a way that builds a moat for incumbents out of fear of an imagined future doom scenario)” and “please Don’t regulate us (in a way that prevents us from stealing, and causing a

Meta has ad revenue. I think Meta’s play is to make it difficult for pure AI competitors to make revenue through LLMs.

I agree that all three are bad and shouldn’t be tolerated. However, Hegseth’s transgression was the worst in terms of severity by orders of magnitude. Details of an in-progress military operation and all.

For comparison, even Rupert Murdoch refused to kill the WSJ expose on Theranos when asked to do so by Elizabeth Holmes. He did this, despite being a major investor. Shame on Bezos indeed.

Model 2 might seem like the sensible move, but it is also a capitulation to the idea that Tesla is just a “car company” and has to compete on price and is destined for the inevitable race to the bottom with the likes of byd in an increasing

I see it like this: If you are designing a jetliner filled with human passengers (and the associated liability), first principles might lead you to a culture which puts a high priority on safety. The high cost of safety by design is deemed

I think most people would agree on which is the lesser of two evils. No real controversy there. The “idiotic” part is when a question is posed in order to downplay the “lesser evil” through whataboutism.

I remember back in the day when hefty penalties for torrenting music were in the news, they would erroneously describe it as penalties for “downloading” music. I suppose this was intentional in order to spook usenet users, etc.

I don’t think the dynamic you are talking about has much to do with Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication. Perhaps a slightly reductive view, but I see “NVC” as basically saying that when people argue, emotions can sometimes overrule logic.
