Amazing work. Great prompts. Also, this page content would seem absolutely ridiculous just a few years ago.

It depends on what exactly happened. Sometimes documentation will say stuff like "order of execution of these methods can be random" which if ignored may lead to a bug after a perfectly compatible upgrade.

Sounds like a great setup. Huge models are running on stock laptops. There is no need to send it to cloud. They had no problem e.g. sound recognition (reacting to alarms, cough, cry etc.) running only on selected devices. IPads have M1/

I certainly agree that marketing plays a huge role in software, but I was actively looking at different VCS trying even the obscure ones, there were really no reasonable non-proprietary options. Bazaar and mercurial got created the same yea

I generally agree but it's nuanced. Think about your physical home security. Just like bad guys are always gonna be there, so will the bugs.

I bought an used one (HP Ultirum 6250), you should be able to get it under $1000, closer to $500, but I recommend getting it with the controller so that you know there are no issues. Note that these controllers are made to be mounted inside

I'm surprised HDD don't turn out to be less expensive option calculating in all infrastructure + man hours. Do you have a ballpark what's percentage cost difference for your use case?

Typical reliable offline HDD storage is 2-3 years. For tape it's 20-30 years.

I use it at home for offline backup. You can get LTO-6 pretty cheap and big chunk of my backup is just things I want to keep indefinitely. You can put tapes in multiple locations easily and not worry for 20 years. If you just want to store

It's scary the same way planes are scary. Think about number of devices sold. One model malfunctions and it's on HN front page. Very unlikely events happen sometimes and its those kind of events that you see in the news.

You mean time is the only source of entropy there? I don't think number of bits would even matter for it to be bad in such case.

I think Lex is a very talented interviewer. His questions often seem low quality (to me), but he pushes the discussion in the correct direction. He seem to be e.g. build sentences where after the first part there is a moment for guest to th

Some people do things which are unlikely to be successful blindly, but some do it despite slim chance of success (hello YC), so presumably it would just remove ignorance (or make it more elaborate).
