Yeah I'm surprised about Sam joining MS based on he usually says. But on the other hand, that's a pretty neat move - you fire me - now I own you (simplification, maybe).

I don't trust them, I just download the takeout periodically, worst case scenario you lose a few months of photos which you still have on your phone.

This part is actually pretty OK. Google takeout takes time but if you have the app set to upload originals that's what you get and you can download it any time you want, so if they make a drastic change you'd still have all the ol

Synology is .. ok. They have working photo app and meh albums. But they keep pushing to make an account and log in into the cloud (since about 2 years I think), so their trajectory is not great. I think points you rise are not that hard to

It's weird. That seemed to have been their selling point. Plus black? I don't know about others, but my all my black keyboards acquired some gray parts pretty quick (tiny ones, I like my keyboard clean, but that's precisely w

It seems that people would be willing to pay even more for the service for the value they are getting. And I think in near future such services will diversify. Some becoming very expensive and providing high value. Which will further increa

Every polarizing topic is not taking into account some important dimension. The answer is always the same which both sides don't like because of their frameworks which ignore that dimension. The answer is: "it depends". Usual

Yes. But also you can try putting some big cap between 5V and GND before it arrives.

So I was wondering if it could be that at the point of measurement it was moving very fast towards us. Napkin math says for photons to have 200 times more energy than expected it would need to be moving at 0.99995c. Huh.

That is clearly an issue with my viewpoint. I think it could be more heated than practically impactful (just like "kill tor because pedophiles"). Nuanced issues are not easy to regulate, but then, how about using monkeys instead?

I'm surprised that HN is pretty much a single voice against Neuralink. How many chickens do you think it is ok to sacrifice to potentially help some paraplegic humans? How many monkeys? Is sacrificing a human life worth it? I mean sure

If I'm wrong, I'd love to learn something. Does the fact that you haven't seen anyone else succeed at that goes along with you seeing them trying? I'd love some links and seeing how it failed. And btw not sure if simple

Just paste input output from jailbreaks ask GPT-4 if it was a jaibreak. It's not a breakthrough discovery, my point is just that much of it is preventable but seemingly not worth the cost. There is no clear benefit for the company.

You can fix most of these jailbreaks by setting up another LLM monitoring the output of the first one with "censor jailbreaks", it's just twice as expensive. I mean, sure, somebody would eventually find some hole, but I think

We probably have no experience in doing this with big trees, but I wonder if (probably after mastering the technique for some time) it would be possible to reattach such tree. It sure works with small branches even across different species.

I don't think humanity is ever really considering environmental impact unless it impacts it somehow. We care about disappearing species which amuse us, which we can see at our scale level, not much below. Some rare lion? Tragedy! Thous
