The upper end is all about coding. If I have terra on extra high write code, Sol will find a plethora of bugs and rip the code apart. Anything else? Sure use a cheaper model.

Over a wire it sends pulses of electricity which you can see with an oscilloscope. Heck there is a standard for tcp/ip over short wave if you want to hear the bytes being transmitted. More widespread, those of us familiar with dial up

A byte is quite real. On old machines you could open them up and literally point to where bytes were physically stored in memory. Now days of course the chips are small so you have to point to where the multiple gigabyte chips are at. But t

Needs a language filter. The author I'm shown today is writing in another language, making my views not that meaningful.

Counter point - driving down the beach in a convertible with good tunes blasting and the sea breeze in your hair is fun . Like yeah it sucks for everyone listening, but if every other car is blasting tunes it isn't out of place. Some

Chatgpt is so damn good for cooking it is unbelievable. It will learn your family's tastes over time, you can tell it what pantry staples you keep is stock, and you can take any recipe you find online and ask for stuff like "find

Very off topic - Just 2 days of for fun I tried to login to AOL.com with my username and PW from 1995. (Same username as on HN in fact) It worked! That is one hell of a series of good DB migrations. Sadly I was immediately forced to change

Sorry I should have specified that is the pro controller, typical use case is a docked switch and the controller is used while on a couch or some such. Literally the worst case scenario for dramatic reduction in battery life.

Anyone remember that blog post from a few months back where someone was able to improve a model's math ability by just duplicating layers that were activated while solving math problems? Just literally copy/pasting them and linkin

I don't use tik tok (it never managed to adjust itself to me, YT shorts figured me out faster). I pay for YT Premium so I don't see ads, and I have ad blockers everywhere else, and I just refuse to use any platform that forces ads

It's funny, the only place I see Kalshi mentioned is here on HN for articles about how bad Kalshi is. Same for all the sports betting sites. I'm sure they are all bad, but damned if I never encounter them outside of HN.

My 8 year old switch is happy. The switch doesn't fast charge at absurd rates and generally has good thermals.

The NE Seattle one has an opening a few years back that I should've tried applying for. Thankfully the design review process has been neutered now and hopefully it doesn't get brought back!

One of my regrets is not joining my area's design review board when it had an opening just so I could rubber stamp everything yes.

When chatgpt dropped I found time to start making stuff with it. All the brainpower that typically went towards checking my favorite creators or reading HN links went into making my first LLM powered game. 2 months later I was finished and

I've been in using the same alias since 1995. (COM port 2, where modems used to be at) My pre Internet alias was comkid but that was super common online and not available when I first signed to for AOL back in 1995!

Long ago in Seattle there was a network of BBSs and the head board was called Rat City. They had a lot of work by local artists (mostly tracker files and digital artwork IIRC). I have not been able to find a single hint of their existence.

For the stims, I've found that most doctors titrate up the dose way to fast. For example for methylphenidate, I'd recommend starting on 2.5mg (1/2 the smallest pill) for a week or two, until side effects go away, and then up
