Also to keep people coming back regularly they introduced lots of daily and weekly boni so everyone trying to pause got this feeling of missing out. I guess they got inspired a lot by Zynga for a while.

Yes, around 10%-20% time for design looks correct to me - which is why you have maybe 1-2 designers in a team of 10 people. But the designer still has to work 100% to get stuff done and it can get very stressful as well. And his work is imp

That depends a lot on the company. I've seen game-designers which took it easy, but I've also worked with good ones which took their job extremely serious. The good ones are able to catch problems before stuff is coded or modeled. A good de

Exact same problems in Firefox. Also background scrolling in flash was somewhat smoother.

I would guess it's because the moment you do that you push down the problem to the library/application programmers. They will still have to support old systems and suddenly it's no longer a handful X developers who have to maintain backward

Interesting. I have to admit I haven't tried it for a while, because it was always so bad in the past. But I'm also on Linux and not on MacOSX, maybe the situation there is better.

Third forum where I see this discussed - and same as in the other 2 a lot of the discussion here is again about his choice of his words instead about the content. I don't think that's a good sign.

Especially when you do 3D stuff the overhead for a VM is no longer acceptable. So I'm also dual booting. I wasn't sure which FS would work well and made partitions with ext2, ntfs and fat32. But also using ntfs now as it just works good eno

Do we have any idea what it actually _is_ what is getting depleted when we start to run out of energy or concentration? It's something I've wondered about already a few times - I mean I can pretty much feel running out of steam myself. Whic

People always seem to assume that the typical "human" behavior (speech, reasoning, emotions, making plans) are the hard parts while walking around without bumping into stuff is the trivial thing. But aren't those just the things added by ev

VS2010 and C::B both don't seem to allow that ordering. So not a solution for me, but certainly could be other IDE's support that.

One (maybe stupid?) reason why I really like getter/setters has nothing to do with encapsulation, but that it makes it easier to search for places where a variable is changed. Often you have lots of getFoo and little setFoo functions - so j

Thanks, I had not heard about that before. Although a little sad, as I know a lot of casual users using it right now (even including some young kids). But I guess at least the "Creating Original Art" can be seen as targeting people like gam

My guess: Casual users who don't think the interface is too hard and people liking free software. I seem to fall into both groups. But more generally - a lot of people I know which are starting out with game programming work with The Gimp.

Two games - Faster Than Light and Project Giana. Also I haven't seen too many project in the game industry yet which were right on time, so as long as the guys still work on it that doesn't worry me too much.

No, it's not a $100 Android box - it's a 100$ Android console. And I don't know any other Android system specifically designed for that so far. You don't keep your mobile phone or tablet plugged in to your TV and neither do you plug in a ga

There is rather a big difference between a board and a consumer product. Most people are not keen on building their own system from scratch - and so far there isn't another 99$ game console out which is pretty much what OUYA seems to be abo

It's definitely worse for reading through complete project code. For reading a single-file it's one click more than github which I can live with. It's very nice for getting a quick view on file-based changes, why and when someone did them a
