But would you say that Ardour is an exception and not the norm? From what I can remember, it's not like you didn't struggle with making Ardour (see [1]) a profitable business. In fact I vaguely remember that at one point you were

Hmm, for 1 and 2 have you actually tried to profile your code? You can use the QML profiler to check which parts of QML compilation are slowing you down. Also consider using GammaRay [1] to see what's causing the rendering to be slow.

It's a hit and miss unfortunately. On my Lenovo Yoga 920, it doesn't work for example because there is no driver support. Similary on my Acer laptop too.

There are some things that simply do not work under Linux because of lack of driver support. An example is fingerprint readers. I agree that most x86 laptops are usable under Linux.

This project is really exciting. It's founded by 2 ex Qt guys and I think they made the right decision of focusing on the UI aspect only, instead of aiming to be a full on framework like Qt.

Does it? You mean if you link against libstdc++ instead of libc++?

They're only supported in MSVC and GCC (for the latter you need to link against Intel's TBB to make it work). Support in libc++ (Clang) is work in progress.

I think the interest in this project is also peaked by the fact that some of the people behind the project are quite well-known and respected members of the C++ (and Swift) communities.

What's the status of Vello? Will we see a stable version by the end of the year? Also, it'd be interesting to see how it stacks up against the new Rive renderer, which also seems to be promising in bringing vector graphics to the

Is it (will it be) possible to use Vello from C++ or is this firmly Rust only?

How do you manage the licensing? Do you use some library to enforce the trial period in your apps?

Yes, I know that the project hasn't got a bright future unfortunately. What I was more interested in was its current stability and correctness. I wouldn't mind using it if it was relatively stable and free of bugs.
