Right, the issue here is just using null or "". You could use an Optional or Maybe type here. Even better you could define: data SessionKey = ValidSessionKey | InvalidSessionKey Then the developer making the modification

Clojure is weakly typed? That python won't work since it is strongly typed.

Adding to my list of security vulnerabilities that static typing would have prevented.

Implying API limitation and annoyance means professional... Yuck. Professionals can also use a Haskell web framework. Increasingly so for their day jobs, at least in my case.

If it's the right solution then an experienced Haskell developer will congratulate you. If it's the wrong solution they'll point you towards a functional solution which likely works better with the language/paradigm.

WordPress and stable/battle tested don't really go together in my experience. Especially since plugin quality varies widely. Edit: I guess I can concede that vanilla WordPress is mostly stable and very battle tested.

I would totally use something that allowed me to use Haskell like I use bash. Turtle allows me to do some of it. I'm thinking more along the lines of this project that never took off though: http://nellardo.com/lang

Performance regressions in GHC are taken seriously as far as I've seen. It's not that big of a deal since you should test/profile your program on any compiler upgrade. If you see any regressions, just post it to the ghc maili

Why does Java have Maven, Haskell have Cabal, or Python have pip? So you can grab some old code written by someone no longer at a company, build it, fix bugs, and complete your task in a reasonable amount of time. Without version constraint

Actually using type classes and sum types, the Gender is superfluous if you define: data Gender = Male | Female Would type more, but on a tablet ATM. Not sure if this is a good idea or not, but interesting to think about.
