Does this mean that there is no read scaling? The master server must be able to handle the entire read load?

There's nothing wrong with selling picks and shovels, but blog posts like this are often exaggerated. There is no way to confirm he actually made good money using game maker. If he made 80k, no doubt people here would give it a try, bu

But the problem with doing it on the app is that when you are joining huge rows, all of this unfiltered data gets sent over a relatively slow 100-1000 mbit port.

What if they can't make it much faster? Like Go, they make the tradeoff not to have C++ generics for faster and smaller compiles.

I didn't make a request nor did I ever pretend to know the answer. What I do know though, is wanting someone's job to be automated soon so she can pursue her hobbies on some personal hope for a basic income, which there isn't

Well think about how your request plays out. She stays on her job for the next 2-3 years until they figure out how to automate her job. Then for the next 30 years she is destitute or working a more menial job until the number of marginalize

What facts? You mean the fact that he is telling HN that it is a technical marvel to block such a large attack and then he doesn't even understand how the attack was done as was explained in the article he told people to read? This is

Attackers will switch to attacking an IP that isn't null routed. You could theoretically keep changing your DNS entries. But many ISPs cache entries for a day instead of whatever your TTL is, so you get customers locked out. Source ver

I'm sorry but it is clear to me that you don't understand a major portion of the article you are telling people here to read as though you can understand the technical details. This is both disturbing and amusing at the same time.

$2k is just the beginning. If you looked at the forum I just posted, attacks can go up to 60 gbps and still only cost a couple of dollars. This can easily cost as much as a full time employee, and many large sites can be run by 1-2 people.

Anycast isn't difficult to implement and is widely used to create CDNs. It is simply costly. You need to buy a large block of IPs and have multiple data centers. After you have that, it is trivial to block all DNS packets, especially d

That's nice but what do start-ups and other less famous organizations do? Any competitor can buy a 30+ gbps attack for a few dollars. http://hackforums.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=232 And it costs $2000/month just fo

When is the AUFS requirement going to be removed? Ubuntu is going to drop it in the near future. So the idea of rebooting all servers to install a custom kernel with AUFS makes me not even want to try it.

While we're talking about rewriting the Internet, please fix ddos attacks. The current internet is especially prone to ddos attacks to the point where it costs 100x more money to defend than to start an attack of the same size. http:&
