Filling cheap/temp jobs doesn't mean demand isn't weak. If companies were truly desperate for people they would offer higher prices or even pay to train people to their standards. I remember in the 90s, someone telling me tha

The problem is, the plebians would not be able to get a job to pay for the goods/services no matter how cheap they may become. If you had robots making everything you could possibly want, why would you bother selling any of it to peopl

Ripple can hardly be called an altcoin. The currency was all premined and seems to only be used by some banks as an alternative to ACH. You need to choose which nodes to trust, which can be a small set of easily compromised nodes. So once a

What you say doesn't really disprove my point. Yes you can change to a different algorithm. But the underlying principal is the same. You require participants to spend X time in a problem with no shortcuts. Changing the problem does no

All crypto will eventually be broken. SHA-1 seemed bulletproof a few years ago, and now people are trying to phase it out. If it becomes worth it to break bitcoin, these vulnerabilities will be used, discovered faster, and likely won't

I'm trying to think about how one can profit from this bubble popping through the stock market but I just don't see it really popping. You can't really default on student loans and the government can garnish your wages.

What neutron boy said. If you don't wait 5-6 confirmations, it could be a fake transaction. And I can spend money I get from Paypal as soon as I get it. I don't have to wait 1 hour.

Regarding bitcoin, the main problem is that a lot of people have large amounts of bitcoin horded from early days and they tend to be biased and start spamming forums about how great it is as it will make them very rich if the adoption incre

As someone who has looked into deploying a DNS based CDN, I have frequently found ISPs ignoring TTL. Routers handle bgp updates much faster. Anycast routing is much more superior to geolocation which gives a completely incorrect location as

If anycast TCP didn't work, then cloudflare wouldn't exist. DNS is not sufficient. It takes forever to handle downtime because ISPs don't respect TTL.

Building your own CDN these days requires you to own a large ip block and ASN, and colo at several locations so the DC will actually bother routing to you, in order to deploy anycast. Certainly too expensive for a small deployment which is

The solution is really simple, don't host images through a CDN. Though it might not be as fast, it will be way cheaper. I'm really suprised they didn't look at all the stories of people before trying to start image or video h

It doesn't amaze me at all. Before tooling was very poor with no autocomplete so using a typed language meant you had to type maybe 20% more (and cluttering the code) on top of having to add everything to a struct in exchange for catch
