I loved Dokuwiki for a time and it suited me well. These days I have a few specific pains with it though. * Even though it’s just plain text files, I’ve been unable to move it to another server (you can’t just copy the folder because of its

The post here on hacker news mentioned the down sides for one receiver. That person was stressed out thinking that they were about to be sued. They considered retaining council, which could have cost them a few thousand dollars, in order to

Startup Founders often say, “do things that don’t scale”. If I were trying this, I might just register the domains in my account, list myself as the admin, and list them for everything else. No building necessary until you prove the idea.

Along those lines, my mother in law rolled up two dollar bills in a tin can. We were spending the bills all over town. They are rare enough that some places wondered if they were real. Your bank can probably get you as many as you need.

So, I prefer a dark house at night. There are even studies that indicate crime is actually lower in the dark(1). What other studies are there that indicate turning off the lights and reducing light pollution is a good idea? 1: The Chicago A

Just last night I was thinking about how much of my life is wasted watching advertising on TV. 15 minutes is worth more than a few dollars to me. I was watching a movie on the Roku Channel. Because the channel is free, it's got commerc

AsciiDoc looks like a cool option. I wrote mine in Libre Office Write. Then I wrote a small book with step by step instructions for how to do it. Here’s the book. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited if you have that. https://www.a

I’m not sure that’s true for all forms of writing but I’d love to hear more about it. Publishing a blog, for example, is pretty likely to be read by at least a small group of people. Same with a book. If I’m writing in a personal notebook,

I learn by writing about things in detail because it causes me to think through them. So, I’m the opposite, sometimes, where I write about things I’m not an expert in. I also publish a blog, so I do it in public fairly frequently.

This is often described by authors. They sometimes suggest letting the writing rest a while. Come back to it a while later and adjust it into a final draft. This advice is often talking about longer form material, like books, but I wonder i

Even simple stuff takes me multiple tries. I don’t know how any engineer gets a design right the first time. I can build it in a 3D design app, look all around it, and STILL see something in the prototype that was not obvious in the design.
