I’ll take a SIGSEGV bug any day over working on memory corruption issues. I have some nasty battle scars in that area.

Why do they hate the idea? It’s not clear what the core problem is. Are they contractually or by law obligated to comply with security/privacy requirements? Are they afraid you’ll misuse their data (steal their business, etc). If you c

You can decompile class files into java files, so OP’s question makes sense. Same with C#.

Huge salaries are not the direct problem, high cost of schooling in the US and the requirement to have an undergrad are. Other countries allow you to go straight from high school to medical school, plus other countries have free schooling.

“ the behaviour we want to limit is driving” By we, what do you mean? If this was true, we’d build walkable cities, public transportation and promote home office as much as possible.

Yes, it’s an advantage if you plan to store plain text, but storing plain text is bad to begin with. There is no advantage if you use proper security practices like storing a hash and salt.

Wonder if it’s some psyops so people start wondering: “look at how these old people are abusing Medicare, we need to repeal“.

Why are we choosing rooftops instead of a central location for solar, like we do for all other types of electricity generation? At first sight, it seems economies of scale would make it easier to have one company handle a solar power statio

I remember some messy conventions in electronics as a reason. The conventional flow of current goes from positive terminal to negative. But electrons actually flow from negative terminal to positive.

I implemented all of them. Thank you for sharing. I recently finished Atomic Habits and these actions pair well with it. Especially the points about making the bad habits less accessible and make them less satisfying.

Do you remember when Raymond Hill ceded control of uBlock to another guy? This new guy started asking for donations (for himself) and then sold the project to AdBlock. That was truly disgusting. That’s what prompted Raymond to create uBlock

I don’t have a use case for this service. I rarely produce images other than photos, and I don’t like sharing personal photos publicly, like Imgur. When I share photos, I do via text messages, rarely email nowadays. I wonder who’s the demog

My thought process is: 1. You find a bug, open an issue. 2. If bug is a minor issue, wait. If I want a fix really bad, offer to fix it. 3. If I still want a fix really bad and author did not respond, or does not want a fix, then fork the pr

I have multiple air sensors and I don’t notice a high pollutant count (voc, co2, pm1/2.5/10) due to toys. Gas stoves however.. they spike voc and co2 around the house when used.

PlantUML predates mermaid and is an excellent tool. A big issue was PlantUML being developed in Java. If it was coded in JavaScript, you could put it in any web app, and the story might have been different.

My interpretation is you can build commercial products with Qt for free as long as you can comply with LGPL. Mostly this means link dynamically (if closed source), only use LGPL components and give attribution. Lots of GUI native, non-web l

Wow. Iced is also not mature, but being backed by an important project such as Pop OS gives me hope it will stick around. Maybe it’s time to dive into Rust with Iced, and port over a Qt project I’ve been working on.
