The genius of disruptor was in the data structure and access mechanisms, plus the fact that it worked for single producer / single consumer circumstances. It is certainly not an example you can tout for how Java is as fast as C/C

True. Best example that comes to mind in recent memory for me is Resident Evil 4 on gamecube - nobody thought the GC could do that.

I've worn an OR, and without physical feedback even games where you are strapped into a cockpit or driver's seat are lacking. Seems like this kind of thing will be made more popular by the OR.

Er, not sure about 'over-the-top', but I noticed the same thing regarding third edition Dungeons and Dragons. When they were trying to broaden the appeal to more than just, well, the traditional AD&D player, all the pronouns

In a C codebase, I would prefer '#define struct union' tucked away in a shared header. Compiles just fine.

The title originally said something like 'How I Found Racism Using Yelp', which I thought was inaccurate. The linked article was clear about the distinction.

You didn't find racism, you found accusations of racism made on the internet. The difference is enough to make me think the title should be different. A larger number of accusations of racism might indicate a problem, but there is no

A block with ten times the population density and four times the number of residences that has ten times the number of home break-ins is more dangerous - there are more crime victims. I suppose this means that the type of crime is importan

We probably will be able to reverse 'gay' in people. We'll probably also be able to reverse 'straight' as well. I've seen some sci-fi that touched on this subject a bit. http://en.wikipedia.org

No, it's not. Every 300 or so miles you stop and pump gas for a few minutes at any number of available locations, and then you move on. You don't have to plan your trip around gas station locations. If charge stations become ub

The whole thing as a system requires it to 'police' itself internally, because we don't have enough information to be able to do it effectively (i.e., file lawsuits with 100% accuracy). I'll say it again - when a case r

When a review of a case finds that the prosecution knowingly withheld evidence that actually proved the client could not have been there, the facts pretty much speak for themselves. This should have led directly to criminal charges.

So, when a prosecutor / detective blatantly ignores contradictory evidence and end up putting an innocent person in jail, why do we not treat that as a crime? There are a number of obvious cynical answers to this, but seriously, does

Doubly so if you are a minority in the south. Yeah, because police targeting of minorities restricted purely to the south. 'Stop and Frisk' was all on the up-and-up, and I'm absolutely positive that the LAPD would never

It bothers me that you think trucks should be niche market. Ever had to move anything anywhere bigger than a bag of groceries? If you can avoid using it as a commuter, by all means, but most people can't afford to have one and the uti

I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying (aside from stating an experience). If hand lotion can (supposedly) flag the machine, setting off the detector shouldn't be handled in this fashion.

My wife set off an explosives detector once. They asked her if she had used any lotions, she said yes, hand lotion, and they let her go. This was about a year ago.
