How are the changes to rewrite this castle of shit? Being a developer I would hate working on that pile of garbage but judging from management? Well if it works it works. Being pragmatic ain’t that bad.

For what it's worth I think this is a beautifully designed app. The usability and user experience is great. Yes, it does just one simple thing but it does so in a smooth and elegant way.

Can anyone explain how these tools work? How are they recording program execution? Don't they need to keep track of every register, memory address and such? Seems rather complicated.

10 PRINT "Hello, World" 20 GOTO 10 Easy to understand and you can see the result right away. You don't complex languages or "playgrounds" to teach the basics of programming.

FB is really great about making you feel guilty if you delete the app, don't use the app. You miss your friends, they miss you, you don't get all the news, you feel out of the loop, you are lonely again. Deactivated (not deleted)

So, if we follow the authors logic we should abandon all science because we don't know what they might cause. Innovation is pure by nature. Judgment is done empirical evidence after innovation. You can't change the order.

You can say what you want but these were great times! Everyone could make their own little ugly homepage and it was exciting. People didn't really judge each other or bragged about how this tech is better than that. I kinda miss it.

From my understanding the commons Clause can only attach itself to new patches. The old code keeps the original license without attachment.

> Wow! That seems like a mistake. This casts too wide a net and catches more than it should. It catches everything. Commons Clause makes the software proprietary.

We went from Hipchat to Teams and now Slack. Hipchat was solid. App was great to use and did not consume many resources. Integration with other tools was ok. Of course things like Atlassian were nice. Webhooks, API worked for me. Even writi

Yes, Aurora is not cheap if you run bigger instances with slaves. But I can't compare it with costs running bare metal in datacenter.

Totally agree with you. As other people commented here. The key to communicating about technical debt is numbers. You need some metric to at least show that you have a problem and a number to show that you improved quality after reducing te

The most frustrating part is explaining technical debt. From a business perspective you have a running software. You can sell it - it has all the features needed. Now you come along and tell me you need to fix something, that no client can

I am experimenting with Lidar datasets lately. In lidar you work with huge point clouds. Millions to billions. For some algorithms - convex hull - you need to sort the points for example by x-cooridinate. I did some quick tests with quick s

Isn't the main problem with build tools that no one spends much time learning them? You set them up, they work, then forget about them. Skip forward six months and waste hours on SO figuring out how your build works.
