So the problem is WhatsApp servers can add people to groups? I don't want to be a cynic but aren't groups per se stored on a centralised server? Or the definition of a group at least. So this isn't much of a surprise?

The UG was actually made just for this purpose. With the EU law it was easier to just create a LTD or LLC in the UK. The 25k EUR are not something you have in your pockets as a founder. Even though you only need to deposit half.

What the article doesn't mention is the ongoing costs with a GmbH. The annual Bilanz is around 2000 EUR. Not to mention you pay lots of taxes and as a founder you can't get money out of the GmbH without getting taxed again (Abgelt

I love stories like this. All the history behind a very young but rich science. For example I always assumed C came from a strong typing background and its premises was always about being portable. Neither of them are true.

git as a tool not a workflow. If you want to use git like a central VCS that is fine. git allows it. If you want to go fully distributed like the kernel devs. Fine, git allows it. As always, pick the approach that works best for your enviro

One time I saw a database, with a single table, with a single text column that contained the old database.

How concurrent is that? Can't imagine how writing to the file is even achieved.

U2F is great and you can get a physical device for around $15. I wish banks and such would adopt U2F sooner than later. They could just sent U2F tokens as giveaways. Big downside: Apple and Microsoft. They don't support it in their br

Pretty good actually. We started using AWS Lambda as a tool for a cron job. Then we implemented a RESTful API with API Gateway and Lambda. The Lamdbas are straightforward to implement. API Gateway unfortunately has not a great user experie

Exactly. You just need to establish some ground rules on how things are to be done. Most tools are just tools. You need to define some workflow to go with it, otherwise you don't get any benefit or upset people.

Oh yes, I totally agree with you on this. But it is a long road to become a domain expert. Don't forget people eventually leave jobs and you get new hires. Leaves lot of room for errors.

Writing software is still "creative" and less "engineering". There aren't many ways to build a bridge but many ways to express yourself in language. Natural language or computer language that is. Add this to "b

The problem with big bang rewrites is you end up falling in every trap the original developers fell into.

Bought a U2F Yubikey more than a year ago. It is pretty sturdy. Better buy two and use one as a backup. U2F is really convenient to use. Compare that to all the OTP apps out there.

You can use U2F in firefox with extension. Last time I tried it worked. However I use chrome most of the time so I am not sure if it still does. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/u2f-support-a...

I am by no means an expert, but I always wonder why people don't adopt ASN.1 for serialization? I know it is not pretty but writing machine readable stuff never is.

Go for it! I imagine your sidejob will be some sort of consulting? With your Gewerbeschein it takes little bureaucracy and you don't have much to lose. Just be prepared for taxes and the risk of Scheinselbstständigkeit. Don't make

My time to shine. Where shall I start? First of all there is mentality. In Germany people kinda expect you to get a job and push through with it until you go to pension. Changing jobs a lot is often seen as a personal failure. That poor acc
