Before Germany had the concept of UG we only had GmbH. For a GmbH you need to bank at least 12.500 EUR. Quite a sum if you wanted to start a business. So it was better to create a Limited in the UK and work in Germany. That construct was to

It was never a loophole. „Ist der Auftragnehmer eine rechtsfähige Personengesellschaft (z. B. OHG, KG, GmbH & Co. KG, Partnerschaftsgesellschaft, GbR), schließt dies ein abhängiges Beschäftigungsverhältnis zum Auftraggeber im Regelfall

Unfortunately your tax agency is wrong. Finanzamt does not care much. It is the Rentenversicherung that you should care about. They might end up calling Scheinselbstständig. Better get at least one more client to work with.

Anyone can be selbstständig. Anyone can have a GmbH. Question is if you need to pay Gewerbesteuer. If you have a so called Katalogberuf you might be allowed to call yourself Freiberufler. They are exempt from Gewerbesteuer.

Yes, unfortunately. With a degree in CS you might get away with Katalogberuf: no Gewerbe, no Gewerbesteuer

Congratulations! FreeBSD and OpenBSD were my first non-windows OS I tried out. I think the time was 1999 or 1998. Good memories even though I had not much clue of what I was doing at that time. Still learned a lot, basic unix system adminis

True. Oh man, I was so angry about that. You read all them books, refactor anything, use that functional programming, but in the end: who cares! A shiny new button gets more attention than you refactoring that SQL statement.

The reason that software is online is a business one, not a technical one. True, but I host my data in the cloud because I don't want to pay the energy bill of the equipment at home. Despite not having concrete facts I believe it is

Of course you can. Found the company and stay at top of the food chain: Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, Zuckerberg, just to name a few.

Programming is a weird kind of job. Imagine what you can do, all the possibilities. You can create something worth billions in your mind alone. On the other hand you are spending your life putting out fires. Software breaks. It always does.

As a native speaker I can confirm that using the wrong gender is totally fine. Sometimes even native speakers don't know better. That is what I keep telling people. I think the most important thing to watch out is the formal (Sie) and

Can confirm. Deleted FB half a year ago. Nothing really happened. I still feel in the loop with all my friends and even remember their birthdays. Checking FB was just a noise that kept me distracted during the day.

What is your problem with the hardware? The current MacBook Pros has an 8th gen. i7 and up to 32 GB Ram. Pretty good hardware if you ask me. Would I pay for it out of my own pocket? No. But I wouldn't buy a current ThinkPad either. It

I don't want to be cynical. There is probably lots and lots of work being put in this project, but.... The business idea is basically this: hand me your credit card, I go to your favorite ATM, get some money and hand it to you. It is g

How about start with a product that people would actually use? If it is a website, fine. If it is a mobile app, fine. Don't sacrifice business opportunities because of early tech choices.

Not surprising at all. There code might be not performance, maintainable or good looking by developer standards but as OP said they have a gazillion of test cases that make sure oracle db runs and doesn’t produce weird outcomes.
