Yup, my main project relies on a bunch of deprecated APIs that have been deprecated for years with no viable alternative. Hoping for the best!

Apple knows exactly who the 2019/2023 Mac Pros are for - people who will pay for the best specs and need PCIe cards. The 2019 was a very flexible machine, the 2023 is a lot less flexible. Don't expect that to change - the GPU and

I super doubt that a low volume high end Mac is going to eschew the new unified memory architecture. Once Intel support leaves macOS, 100% of their kernel/gpu efforts across 100% of their devices will be based on an ARM SoC, so they ca

I think it's really more simple than that - they have made architectural choices for Apple Silicon that simply don't fit the Mac Pro paradigm. Unified Memory Architecture primarily. The Mac Pro lives on as a Mac Studio for people

It started off as a funny idea and people gladly threw money at him because he’s so good. I have a lifetime Apollo Pro Ultra license and there’s literally no way in the app for me to tip him more, but I totally would if there was.

If you think about Reddit as each of its subreddits being little islands, each island has a timeline of user posts, each post has a tree of comments, and there are moderators who enforce the rules of that island. To me that starts to sound

Reddit encouraged third party clients for a long time, and made no effort to monetize them. The piracy analogy is completely inappropriate. Reddit could still encourage third party clients and also monetize them in a reasonable way, but the

He specifically cited situations where the opposite is true - for example when first opening a subreddit, he requests only 25 posts so the UI can render something quickly, then requests a further 100 posts to prepare for the user scrolling.

You could certainly make a good argument that Dr Su's direction/focus, as CEO, allowed successful projects to flourish into compelling products.

Dr Su became AMD CEO in 2014 when they were deep in the ruinously awful Bulldozer CPU architecture. The first Zen products didn't launch until 2017 - that is when their "success kinda started" at least in the CPU market. Here

Those stupid gates have never worked for me, and I've always suspected that they are actually just connected to a call-centre type operation. Given how fast my phone can recognise my face (in 3d no less), the e-gates are a total joke.

It's very slow, and for the 7b model you're still looking at a pretty hefty RAM hit whether it's CPU or GPU. The model download is something like 40GB.

For people wanting to run it locally, you can fit the 7b model (just) into a 24GB VRAM GPU (e.g. 3090/4090). The 3b model appears to be much more reasonable, but I would say the output is.... of limited quality based on the few tests I
