I find a very great deal of agreement in what you have said here. A good example of one of my firehose feeds is HackerNews. I don't actually know what proportion of the posts I read, but I would guess it's significantly less than 10%. Sure

Imagine how many AGPL Disqus replacements could have been written with all the keystrokes devoted to whining about them. If GNU/FSF are so serious about non-AGPL web services being so awful, why are they not stepping up to re-implement them

what the hell is with all these people telling me that I'm doing something wrong with RSS?! I think I'll feel free to consume things in any way I find relevant to my interests. If that means I want a firehose of updates, so be it. If that m

Discussions of "big pharma" aside, this seems like a classic case of treating symptoms and not causes. If you consider that the cases likely to present for vaccination are the more serious ones, you're going to be preventing people from tak

did Google order manufacturing of the device? did Google order printing of the manuals and the box? did Google stack the boxed up devices onto palettes and ship them out to shops? Is it called the Google Xoom? No no no no. All of the above

I don't disagree with you at all. The software is a huge part of Apple's success, but I was being generous and assuming Android is as good. Even with ideal hardware specs and software quality, Android tablets would still be worse business t

(Disclaimer: I own a whole stack of Apple kit, including an iPad, and some AAPL). I've not played with a Xoom, but it keeps striking me that all of the people launching Android tablets are totally the wrong people to be doing it. Apple has

The box says Motorola. That means they signed off shipping it. Even if any problems with it can be placed firmly at Google's door, it still says Motorola on the box. I think that was the previous commenter's point.

It would be lovely if every feature could land and be 100% complete and bug-free, but FOSS has never worked like that and never will work like that. Release early release often - that's always been the mantra. What you are asking for is con

Logical conclusion of what you say is that this is exactly the right time to make changes, otherwise they would be too dangerous for LTS releases! Unity going into 11.04 means that by the 12.04 LTS it's had a whole year of real-world use on

You are entitled to be offended, but the term has never really been more than a darkly affectionate moniker - Dan Lyons (fake Steve jobs) is a big fan of FOSS, as am I :)

I'll consider my tone more in future, but lest anyone mistake me - I am part of the FOSS world, so I am a freetard too and use the term as endearing dark humour :)

$0.99 is nothing really, if you've already bought into the Apple ecosystem. It's just a nice way to drive people into the app store and make sure they have a credit card on file :)
