I don't want you to hug me, or otherwise violate my personal space, thank you. I don't know you, it's completely inappropriate. Textual descriptions thereof also make me feel weird and uneasy. (And if you don't think tha

Yes yes so much yes. FWIW he does a podcast with Merlin now, called Irreconcilable Differences, but it's not primarily about tech.

Analysis with a very poor sample set (a set of USA online buyers of unknown representativity, who happen to let some company read their emails). Even Slice themselves cautioned about extrapolating from their data.

Also, "I want to apologise" is different to "I apologise". It's understandable that people want to put as much self-sparing language in an apology as possible, but it's the worst time to do it.

I'd like to hear more about their bad track record. Also, Apple profits from selling hardware, not user data. They're just not structured to profit from user data. They could change that, of course. It'd be similar to Google

I don't get the 17", they were insanely big and heavy. The 15" rMBP can run in the same effective screen resolution, while also being significantly smaller and lighter. Wins all round!

I'm not sure if I'm responding to exactly what you said, but I would say that Apple has been anything but silent about user privacy. Tim Cook has said on multiple occasions that he values user privacy very highly, that Apple does

I have heard it said that putting MailRoute in front of your Fastmail account, clears up the spam problem to the same degree that Google does.

Yeah, it's weird. My sons (2 and 4) absolutely love the first Cars movie, but they won't be watching the second until they are a bit older. It's quite a step up in menace and violence, sadly.

An interesting experiment to try is to say "girls"/"ladies" instead of "guys" for non-gender-specific uses, and see how weird it feels.

FWIW, as a counter-anecdote, every time I have been to see my bank about a big life decision, I have come away feeling that I might as well not have bothered, because they just wanted to push me their most valuable products.

So, I get that you want to make the accounts free, but frankly, for the kind of service you're talking about, I would very gladly pay a monthly fee. I say that a) because I agree that all of the current UK banks suck and I'm willi

FWIW, I tend to substitute the word "user" there, for "software". I see permissive Open Source licenses as giving developers all the freedom, and copyleft licenses as giving the software itself, all the freedom. I choose

Absolutely, I hope I didn't convey a message that I think the licenses aren't without justification. I do think that they have gone too far though, and I think that is somewhat supported by the (as I see it, at least) lack of inte

Sure, but they are so tightly integrated with Xcode. It would be very hard to open source anything meaningful there, I suspect.

Thanks, I'd not seen all of that detail before. I can certainly understand that the anti-Tivoisation clauses are concerning to Apple.

They didn't claim it is open source, they said it's going to be . So, again, who is Apple combatting by announcing their intention to open source a language?

By the same token, it might also be nice to see FSF advocates taking on board the notion that they have brought some of this on themselves with newer versions/variants of the GPL.

That's such a defensive position to take. Who/what is Apple combatting by announcing that Swift will go open source? It's just one more language in a huge sea of options. It's expected that any language, if it is to be t

I don't think you have any evidence of such a pledge. Personally, I think Apple doesn't give a fig about software freedom. I don't think they are in favour of it, or against it, they simply want to ship their products. For a

That is really a separate question though. Open Source is simply about licensing of a software release, it says nothing about the nature of the development community that produced the software. An open, collaborative development community i
