On the to do list, he says that he intends to transfer karma to the poster when you upvote something. So if you upvoted a link, you would be deducted one karma point and it would be given to the person who submitted the link. So, eventually

I think the wind down of Google Labs and several small Google products, APIs, etc is definitely reflective of that advice. Very cool to know where they might have gotten the inspiration to do that.

What an annoying reporter doing the interview. Ask an open-ended question and let him talk about it, don't constantly interrupt him and put words into his mouth...

by cmelbye 15y ago
Well, I think for precisely those reasons, people will know not to form their own pricing expectations in their mind this time.
755.
by cmelbye 15y ago
Wait, what would you suggest they do instead of announcing the pricing 30 days in advance? That seems completely reasonable to me... Also, considering several huge sites still use MySQL like Facebook, Wikipedia, etc, I think you'll be fine

No, I'm switching to Android.

No, for another reason.

It seems as if they've already released a fairly simple plugin to integrate Bitbucket with JIRA, which is nice. I'd personally like to see deeper integration between Bitbucket and Atlassian products like Crucible, JIRA, Confluence, etc.

Wow, this is really cool. Nice work!

Silverlight doesn't even work on Chrome for me, I have to switch to Safari to watch Netflix.

I really wish they would address the lack of many movies and TV shows for streaming. I'd love to just subscribe to Netflix instead of Qwikster, but the streaming catalogue is just not there right now.

Where do I buy it? The Buy link doesn't seem to be working.

I don't see how that has anything to do with the statement that I was referring to: "[their database services] don't seem reliable or scalable."
769.
by cmelbye 15y ago
They actually have a very impressive dedicated database service: https://postgres.heroku.com/ It supports scaling vertically by throwing in more cache, faster CPU, etc. Once you outgrow that, it supports horizontal scaling by replicating

I think that's correct about Chrome. If you want to see the "current" source, the Web Inspector is the way to go.

This is true. The new Twitter web app is probably one of the best web apps I've ever seen. I still prefer the native version, though.

by cmelbye 15y ago
I'd still much rather use Twitter for iPhone than I would mobile.twitter.com. It's not only a matter of lack of integration with the system as the author pointed out, but responsiveness as well. It may not be as obvious on platforms like we

I think attention to detail in terms of a column name is different than attention to visual design and look and feel of a product.

Gollum[1] is really nice for that. It power's GitHub's wiki feature. All pages are in Git, and it supports several markup languages including MediaWiki but also Markdown, Textile, etc. Nice, clean interface, nice editing toolbar. Open sourc

Sounds like Confluence ( http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/ ). I wish it required a server running only a couple hundred megabytes of RAM.

I believe that he permanently deleted his livestream account due to huge charges that were racked up due to the high traffic of the broadcast (something along the lines of $4,000 I want to say?), so the recorded video is no longer available

Bootstrap.less seems like it's just a bunch of LESS preprocessors for things like rounded corners, color transparency, grid layout, etc. Bootstrap goes further and includes navigation bars, table styles, alert message styles, and a lot more

+1 for localtunnel. It's a great service and really easy to use. I've seen similar ones that cost money, but as far as I know localtunnel is still free to use. http://progrium.com/localtunnel/

Don't get me wrong, I love a custom UI in an iPhone app when it's done right. See: TweetBot. Gorgeous, 100% custom UI, and they preserved button sizes, labels, behavior, etc that the user is used to in an iPhone app.
