I had years of Java experience when I joined MS and started writing C#. I found the tooling to be generally ickier, and was surprised by a few gaps in the ecosystem. For example, there is nothing (official) comparable to javadoc for C#. Doc

I bought a new car in 2019 and it has about 10,000 miles on it. I could sell it for what I paid for it, which is completely absurd. If I knew I’d be able to buy another car in ~6 months, I’d sell it in a second. But the auto industry backlo

Well you wouldn’t want any ~~~centralized~~~ entity having control of the appetizers, would you??? Much better to store every menu of every restaurant on thousands of computers and use menu updates to decimate coral reefs.

I totally agree that China isn’t going to step up on climate. I don’t think there is another power able to drive international consensus like the US on this issue. Whether that’s a blessing or a curse is mostly a matter of perspective :)

I feel like you’re arguing a straw man; is anyone actually saying or thinking that the US is the sole cause of climate change? Everyone I talk to about climate is under the impression that China is the big bad wolf (although that’s overly-s

Like seemingly everything in the modern world, it depends on your credit worthiness. Some mortgages also come partnered with homeowners insurance, and those policies are what often lead to sales being blocked by even minor issues.

I usually try to avoid working with URLs as bare strings like this, both for readability and correctness (URL encoding is tricky). With ‘requests’ you can do something like pass a dictionary of your query params and it takes care of forming

One of the worst things about twitter is the flood of “unroll” bots in the replies for every single thread that gets any amount of attention. Personally, I don’t find threads hard to navigate or consume, but clearly plenty of users would ra

Looks like the IP is a twitter.com one, or possible GitHub's. Either way, it has essentially nothing to do with the copyright claim.

I’ve been a Facebook user since 2008. I regularly use it today. I don’t consider myself or any of my Facebook friends “naive, dumb little users.” The interactions on Facebook in, say, 2010 were decidedly less awful than they are today. In 2

The blog reiterates that using Redis as your primary database is totally possible, and a good idea even. I think that's the biggest Redis anti-pattern out there. I would never put data in Redis that I wasn't comfortable losing a

Agreed, and the mini has different I/O that you might prefer (USB-A, 10 gig eth). Also, it’s smaller (surprise, “mini”). Plus, clamshell mode on a MacBook just isn’t the same as a desktop for “always-on” use cases.

I’d call IPFS immutable rather than permanent. Which is a cool idea for media files at least, but isn’t very useful for something like a blog post. I think the “HTTP is obsolete” claim is a bit laughable. IPFS is essentially just bittorrent
