FWIW, I've tried to use stack twice and came back to cabal-install. There's also that I enable split-objects in ~/.cabal/config (not available in Stack) and often use GHC on platforms where there's no Stack-provided

Regarding overhead of H.264 and VP9, using Intel's QuickSync or AMD's VCE would make sense in a production version, in order to have a fast implementation. That's VAAPI (and maybe VDPAU) on Linux and BSD. The encoders' o

Strangely MLkit doesn't have AMD64 support yet. That's why I use MoscowML for the REPL, besides MLton for final binaries.

The module nastiness is supposedly solved with 1ML, but OCamls folks are not standing still. I mean, kacey's effects type system looks like an elegant way to build concurrency features, and I'm glad they're basing OCaml multi

SML is old, very old. SML has quite a few implementations and MLton is one. This is a fork of MLton with some special features. There's also MLkit which has region types similar to Rust. I don't know if MLkit was first though, but

In the realm of FP compilers, what I like about MLton a lot are its default support for untagged and unboxed integers, reals, arrays, etc. And SML is arguably a nicer language to learn than OCaml. I'm using MLton for executables and Mo

And if you're working on web apps, look at Ur/Web[1] which also uses MLton. It is what Opa should have been and has a very nice model. [1] https://air.mozilla.org/ur-web-a-simple-model-for-programmin... Edit: Ur&#

I agree, but there's already so much stuff that doesn't belong in kernel space inside Linux and FreeBSD, that this doesn't make it any worse. We will hopefully see the rise of something based on seL4 (microkernel) or Barrelfi

FreeBSD also has Netmap and DTrace out of the box. They will also get TLS support in sendfile(2) as soon as the patches from Netflix land in HEAD.

HAMMER1 on DragonflyBSD runs well with little memory, including running dedup. It also has the binary pkg system just like FreeBSD. Also, the DRM drivers are up to date and support current Intel GPUs.

I find that hard to believe. Those in power, which you classify as (more) intelligent, were afraid of their peer Yanis Varoufakis so much that they did everything to make him leave. They didn't understand his proposals (models) because

Is there also a Gentoo profile for a system-wide clang/llvm? Add libressl and musl (instead of glibc), and it would be quite a different and advantageous linux distro.

Does that mean SLI/Crossfire is not required when using Vulkan or DX12 (or Metal) and applications can saturate all cards if they want to? Isn't there a delay if you don't use Nvidia's bridge connector?

Glad to hear they clarified it, but does it mean that 4 cards cannot be used for non-SLI loads like machine learning? I hope not.

But Nvidia's crippled SLI with the 10xx launch and declared many scenarios unsupported or not working. It's a little unclear right now because Nvidia isn't communicating it properly, but what used to work and was supported is

Exactly, was going to say the same thing. If you have a microkernel, your TCP stack will be in user space and can be more of a framework where applications can be a lot more flexible in how they use it. With the right library structure you
