I used to be able to relate to this. After about 10 years in the industry I find that I crave more diversity. I tend to try to eat lunch with the sales guys to get a break from discussing database performance.

I'd be very surprised if you really knew much about PHP.

I see you are familiar with some dynamic languages such as javascript and ruby. How much more effort do you think it was to create this app in modern C++ instead of something like ruby?

If the US would really lose $35 billion, this project is going to cost Brazil a lot more than $180 million.

I'm not so sure. I think it will take about 5 years for angular 1.x to lose momentum.

I think fingerprint should still require a password after a duration. I'd be fine with using my fingerprint to login if I have recently logged in in the last few hours.

I have all my code in a dropbox synced in a dropbox folder. Works pretty well in combination with something like Git.

I've received several raises over the last few years without asking. I also get large bonuses...If you are under good leadership this happens.

It's impossible to infer what a female is worth because you can't even infer what a male is worth.

I don't think roles deserve certain salaries. Different people are worth different amounts for the same role. As a corollary, I don't think women should have salary expectations because of a role.

You should look at proper SQL. It looks horrible. One benefit a layer can add is the ability to optimize post compilation. Most of the fancy pants Hadoop libraries are doing this one way or another.

I've been using Storm for a few years in production. Thanks for all the hard work Nathan. You and Kyle Kingsbury are two "younger" guys that I always enjoy reading whatever you write.

Today we should be thankful that our ruler has a good policy on Tor. Should they change their mind we could do nothing about it.

It's so amusing how intelligent people can come to such ignorant conclusions. I have no doubt I do it myself from time to time.

If you were falsely accused would you not be upset? There is a due process and I would like to think that people would respect that. My comment was to balance the absurdity.

I beat Ultima 4 when I was 13 on my Amiga 500. I found the game to be much easier than some other RPGs that I played when I was a kid. Bards Tale 1 comes to mind as about the hardest.

Your blog should have been called "If you hire average programmers, try to get ones with related experience". Or perhaps "Beware: average programmers have a hard time quickly learning new paradigms".
