Non-profits still bring in revenue. If they do well, they may actually turn a profit. They simply cannot distribute said profits to shareholders. Charitable giving was around $350B in 2015.

Pricing might play a part there. A base WRX starts at $26K. The STI goes up to $35K. The Honda Civic starts at $18K. If you're on a limited budget, your base vehicle needs to be cheap enough so that you still have funds left over for t

I see your point, but it's not exactly relevant. As a purchaser in need of putting a multi-million dollar satellite in space, I could not care less that your company had failures in its infancy. I want to see your most-recent results a

A colleague was working on a replication study. We got the code from the original researcher and another researcher who did a follow-on study. The code barely runs, and the results seem off. I spent days debugging to no avail. Just because

I'm an MIT alum. There is no "game" being played. If a student is violating certain terms of service (e.g. downloading all of JSTOR) he/she would normally be told to stop, and that's the end of it. You do it again,

I've only used Stripe for about a month. Stripe.js seems like the right solution in this case; but, I'm curious to know how the UX is improving. Aside from the addition of payment providers (e.g. Alipay), the UI/UX doesn'

I completely agree that support matters. What I like about both Stripe and Braintree is that both have great documentation that make integration super-simple. (I liked their docs so much that I blogged about them: http://dev.clin

What a sensational headline. Yes, the bug can shut down the plane...after the generators have been operational for 8 MONTHS CONTINUOUSLY.

Highcharts is amazing, but it is not distributable with open source software. My team at edX recently migrated away from Highcharts to nvd3 for this very reason. The state of charting is such that good packages are expensive. There are some

I used Thumbtack once, and felt that Thumbtack was a scam. It costs me $2-4 just to send a quote. I spent about $20 sending quotes over the course of a month and never saw any business. A lot of the requests I received just seemed fake (e.g

What!? The scenario you described doesn't make much sense. Why would you need to read pages to determine if git pull is the correct command to use?

If you're approaching your limit, either request an increase or, as you have done, pay it off. There very well could be inconsistencies around reporting. I am still an advocate of paying the bill on the final due date because I see cre

Do not take out a loan just to build credit. That's simply a great way to waste money. Just get a credit card and pay it off each month (after the statement but on/before the due date). Setup automatic payments to make this easy.

Wrong. Pay the bill after the statement is delivered and on/before the due date. Paying before the statement arrives means you receive a statement with a balance of $0. When reported to the credit bureaus, a $0 balance does nothing to

The "missed call" is not a phenomenon. Most cell phone callers (not the receivers) in the developing world are charged by the minute for each call. Hanging up before the call is answered incurs no fee. This is simply a way to save

This is pretty easy to comprehend. 1. Some people are just ignorant and refuse to follow directions. Despite being in the final boarding group, they are the first to stand and attempt to board the plane, thinking they can somehow jump ahead

I agree that a CDN introduces a potential point of failure. Another reason I host locally is that I compress and minify my CSS and JS into single files (e.g. application.js and application.css in Rails).
