Can we agree that it's not the having of a kitchen or cafeteria, but what they stock it with that is the problem? I would relish a kitchen or cafeteria stocked with delicious and wholesome food.

I kind of read that a bit differently. First off, we can probably agree that not every corporate open source project is one that the community expresses an interest in. For those projects without community interest, this is moot. For projec

I get that you want to showcase your features, but speaking for myself at least, choosing not to support XMPP means you don't even make the list of possible alternatives to what we have now. Making that promise is nice (if we can agre

I'm curious where the idea that it's largely abandoned comes from. This isn't the first time I've heard it, but each time I've heard it and looked, the project looks far from dead or abandoned.

In my experience working with Debian, the rebuild is sensitive to disk usage. If you start using the disks, the rebuild will slow down intentionally so as to not choke the drives. This could explain why it was fast for you but not for the

Very informative, especially the second page, thanks for linking that! If you have any other suggested reading re Xen / Virtualization I'd be very interested in them.

While what you say is true, it would at least be a step in the right direction towards better privacy. It would provide protection against passive snooping (NSA/GCHQ) even if it wouldn't prevent active attacks. Edit: Typo

Why are fines not tied to a percent of revenue for a given time period? These flat-fee fines look big to the little folks but typically are pocket change for these big companies, it should actually hurt (see punishment) when they do somethi

From my point of view this is what anonymous full disclosure is for. Naming and shaming typically gets some kind of a response. Keeping quiet does not. I know not everyone agrees with full disclosure but I assert there is a time and a place

You could try not watching TV, using a laptop, or reading in bed. For me, when I stopped watching TV and doing things on my laptop from my bed, I very quickly noticed an improvement in how quickly I fell asleep. Another big one is exercise.

I don't think this is a fair analogy. You don't pay the post office a flat fee for the ability to receive all packages, but from my perspective that's exactly what I pay my ISP for. Granted you do pay the post office in the f

This is part of why people are so peeved about this whole situation, most companies who try to double-dip like this get called out on it but for some reason when an ISP does it it's in some kind of grey area.

What really bugs me is that we're all focusing on the judge, not about the fact that there are for-profit prisons. Is that not going to lead other judges to the same corruption over time? To me, the idea of a for-profit prison is just
