I'm in the process of setting up my own email system but my biggest worry is incoming spam. One of the reasons (thee reason?) Gmail is so good at blocking spam is because they have so many users using them that it becomes very easy to

No, I think the author's point was that people shouldn't misrepresent FSS as equivalent to logging to a remote server. They can compliment each other, but they are not the same, and thinking they are can lead to serious security s

Posts like yours are one of the first steps. At this point we need to address the culture problem and the people contributing to it instead of focusing on the distracting fallout. I've tried to keep an open mind about all things system

No, but it does make it possible for those few who do. And that's a few more than would have reviewed it if it was closed source. It's not perfect, but IMO this is one of the best parts of Open Source, I can audit it if I want to.

You've got a very good point. I guess the reason I'm not as worried about it as you is because I feel like it will be easier to get the FCC to bow to public pressure (eventually?) if they do something stupid, more than I trust any

I think you may have misunderstood my comment, of course there is more to it then checkout and commit. Those are the basics, that's where you start. Then you get stuck somehow, and you read more . That's what I did at least. IMO
