Every time I hear criticism of Python's whitespace (indentation), I am reminded once again of how much I appreciate and enjoy it.

This page: http://safalra.com/science/lambda-calculus/recursion/ contains exactly the phrase "Y combinator", which I found exciting. Still trying to understand many other bits of the article.

"It still makes me chuckle that the cloud is supposed to be this amazing thing and yet simple XSS and CSRF attacks and pwn the daylights out of it." A web app that is a GUI for managing cloud computing instances is NOT "the cloud" - that st

Exactly, thanks for posting this (you beat me to it). It's not that we need to constantly respond to every Tornado post with a Twisted rebuttal - but it is appropriate to respond to articles the contain FUD and demonstrate far less elegant,

After reading the tutorial, I took pleasure in reading the source code of that page. A great tutorial and a very nice UI implementation with JavaScript - Resig is a js hacker indeed.

For what it's worth, here is a (bleeding edge) way to run Django with Twisted: http://clemesha.org/blog/2009/apr/23/Django-on-Twisted-using... . Full working example code is linked from the article. With this you get the benefit of being s

These tips describe a fairly "premeditated" approach to gaining reputation, but like anything that yields a reward, it's just reality that people look for optimizations.

Recently I overheard some "non-techie" people discussing a university website, I looked over one of their shoulders, and they had written down ".edu.com". Point is, people are very familiar with the .com tld. That said, it probably depends

I love the slides comparing the old gas pump to the new one, it really demonstrates how high-quality appearance brings about feelings of trust.

"The real success of the cloud like compute services so far has been in bringing small and midsize companies to market incredibly fast." Totally agreed here, and I think this is why hackers and entrepreneurs are so excited about the cloud -

A worthwhile read might be the unit-testing framework from Twisted (Python asynchronous networking library), called "trial". See here: http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/wiki/TwistedTrial or poke around the code for more in-depth details.

I guess you have to define what "taken off" means. I'd agree that Erlang hasn't taken off in the way (say) jQuery has, but the use-cases and audiences are pretty different. There are many applications written in Erlang (ejabberd, RabbitMQ,

Cool! Can you say a little about how you are loading each instance with the chosen packages? For example, are you using Capistrano or Fabric to script the installs? Will you be offering contextualizing functionality, based on some sort of u

He says this makes Twitter more confusing for new users, and I'd argue that is becoming less important. My Grandma knows about Twitter, which puts the total number of websites she can list offhand to 2, the other site being Google.

Agreed, don't let a name hold you from making progress. That said, continually hunting for a "better" one is worth it. Case in point: I have an app (an interactive, online programming notebook), and it was originally called http://knoboo.

Yeah, I think that video is an example of (good intended ?) sarcasm gone wrong. I'm sure the creator wanted to convey a feeling of "fun-ness", but instead I feel that it just diminishes the validity of his app.
